Hi,

I'm looking to buy a used 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid. I don't have experience with hybrids, but am concerned with driving this car on trips. I have a planned trip that's about 200 miles, with minimal traffic (mostly highway driving, some hills). How does the Ford Fusion Hybrid do on long trips?

Thank you!

I've driven my prior '15 to Port Orange, FL (just S of Daytona Beach) from Central NY with no issues. Same trip a couple times in my current '17 ... no issues.

Those are the longest trips, but I've been to Lake George, NY (200+ one way), Tyrone, PA (300+ one way), and reguarly travel to Rochester, NY (short run - 85 miles one way).

I've taken my 2015 FFH on five annual ~1200 mile trips, combination of fast freeway driving, mountain driving, and suburban driving. No problem at all. I've also taken it from the SF Bay Area up to Lake Tahoe and back, also with no problems. I would drive it across the country (if I wanted to, which I don't) without a thought.

What exactly are you concerned about? Just get in and drive! The only real problem could be trunk volume, make sure the battery isn't taking away storage space in the trunk that you might need.

I have done trips 1000+ miles. The only difference that I noticed was that I need to stop to use a restroom long before I needed more gas.

Buy it, drive it. These are nice cars.

I drove all the way across the US on I 80 and I70 in November and December across Colorado, Utah and many elevation changes.  Since it covered mountains, cold temperatures and 80+mph speeds the car got around 35-42mpg.  I was kind of disappointed with it but I was in a hurry.  At 65mph however with the cruise set at 66 there is a sweet spot where you can get over 50mpg around 52mpg where the battery even charges.  There are other sweet spots but they are hard to achieve on winter gas or gas that is bad quality like in the west.

That 35-42 mpg sounds fine to me considering the 80+ mph and cold temps.

I would advise against it, the fuel economy is good, a Prius will still beat it and mine has been terribly unreliable, as so many have been on this forum. Go Japanese and don't look back.

My experience with my 2015 FFH is the opposite, meaning it's needed no repairs at all.

I second this.  We love our 2013 FFH SE.  It's been extremely reliable, and is averaging 47.7 mpg with 42k on the clock.  We've taken it on several trips from Colorado to Iowa and to Oregon.  I'd not hesitate to drive it anywhere.

Just got a used 2019 fusion hybrid and just did a trip just like that at 80 cruise control but it really shines in city driving

I predict you'll love that car as much as I love my 2015 FFH. Yes, mpg is less at 80 mph, but also don't expect to average 57 mpg in the city. 13 miles is much too small a distance to get a meaningful mpg reading.
