lkatze2 Report post Posted September 3, 2018 this is for the people who do their own oil changes. I do my oil changes at 10,000 miles. At my last oil change I noticed my oil level was about one quart low so I decided to monitor my oil consumption. At approximately 7000 miles since my last oil change my engine is almost one quart low on oil. Has anybody monitored there oil consumption? I know there are several variables that can effect oil consumption, such as how much the engine is actually running versus miles driven. But , I would like to get a rough idea if my oil consumption is normal or too high. BTW, my 2014 only has 32,00 miles.
ptjones Report post Posted September 3, 2018 When you were 1 quart low? did you add a quart and where was the level then. How much oil did you put in it when you changed the oil? ICE holds 4.5Qt when you change the oil filter. It is a good Idea to check the oil level a day or two later to make sure the level is still fine. I use maybe a quart in 15k ICE miles which is about 30K total. :) Paul
mwr Report post Posted September 4, 2018 (edited) I seem to be about a quart (or a bit less) low just as I approach oil-change time each 10,000 miles. I now have 56K miles on the car, and that oil consumption has stayed constant throughout the life of the car. lkatze2 Report post Posted September 4, 2018 ptjones, It was just a little less than one quart low. When I do an oil change I only fill the engine to exactly the full mark on the dipstick so that I can precisely monitor oil consumption. As you mentioned the engine holds only 4.5 quarts with filter change, so I usually end up with extra oil in the 5 quart container. I will continue to monitor it and check it a day after I do the next oil change, as you mentioned. BTW, I checked for any leaks and there are none. 1 ptjones reacted to this
lkatze2 Report post Posted September 4, 2018 Also, Is there any way to display the miles or hours that the ICE has actually run?
ptjones Report post Posted September 4, 2018 You don't have a LifeTime Score so use your Trip 2 and set it to 0 when you do a oil change. I believe that you should have an EV miles in blue there so you can subtract that from total miles to get ICE miles. :) You could have your oil analyzed at https://www.blackstone-labs.com/ I have had my oil analyzed 4 times and everything is great. ethermion Report post Posted September 4, 2018 Also, Is there any way to display the miles or hours that the ICE has actually run? When you stop the car, after it displays the trip info, a few seconds later it will give you lifetime info. Should give you EV miles, regen miles, and maybe something else. Wife's car, and she is at work, so I can't be more specific. But, I can tell you for sure, we are well over 40k EV miles with 83k on the odometer. Don't know of an hours meter.

klatoo Report post Posted September 21, 2018 (edited) I run blackstone on all my oil changes...my only issue is a higher fuel percentage in the sample itself. Never had to add oil. Change my oil every 5K miles now Edited September 21, 2018 by klatoo
lkatze2 Report post Posted September 22, 2018 My oil change warning just came on at approximately 7000 total miles since the last oil change. Last time the warning light came on after approximately 5000 miles (the manual says 10,000 miles). What gives? After I do the oil change I am going to use trip odometer to monitor EV miles vs. total miles which should give me ICE miles for the next oil change period as mentioned by PTJONES.. Hopefully this will give me a good idea how much oil I am consuming compared to how many ICE miles.
murphy Report post Posted September 22, 2018 My car is 5.5 years old and I have never had to add oil between oil changes. For a hybrid the limit is 10,000 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first. It's based on total miles, not "engine" miles. The monitor must be manually reset when the oil is changed. I have an Energi which has a 20,000 mile or 2 year limit. For at least 6 months of the year my engine doesn't run at all but the oil monitor still counts down while driving on electricity.
