thrasher086 Report post Posted December 15, 2015 I was given a 2016 Fusion Energi as a loaner car while mine is in the shop. As we all know, all Fusions do not have SYNC 3 yet as some of the new Ford models are pushing them out for 2016 MY's. I noticed the plastic emblem that used to say "Microsoft SYNC", now just says "SYNC". This made me start to speculate that maybe Ford is working on an update to work on older hardware. While they aren't using Microsoft going forward, all MyFord Touch systems still use the same parts, including 2016. The question I said to myself is, why would Ford not keep the same emblem since it is still using Microsoft. What do you guys think?
FernMTL Report post Posted December 15, 2015 (edited) Since the partnership between Microsoft and Ford does'nt exist no more, there not allowed to write Microsoft no more. It means you can have a Sync 2 or 3, depends now on the model year and system. It's all about patent and copyright. SYNC belongs to Ford, so Sync 3 under Blackberry is still name SYNC.I've used SYNC 3 in an Explorer, It's a good software. The APIM and components have been changed though. No way for us to upgrade it! Edited December 15, 2015 by FernMTL

FordIVTteam Report post Posted December 15, 2015 Hey guys! Our partnership with Microsoft is still going strong and will continue to. They are an important partner of ours and have played a key role in improving the quality and performance of our first and second generations on SYNC. In an effort to unify all of our SYNC systems, we have simplified the name plate to say "SYNC." I hope that helps clarify the change! :) Rebecca 2 Flávio Fraga and thrasher086 reacted to this

FordIVTteam Report post Posted December 15, 2015 We worked with Panasonic to develop the QNX operating system on SYNC 3. However, we'll continue to work with Microsoft on future projects. Rebecca 1 FernMTL reacted to this
machoman1337 Report post Posted December 15, 2015 Will you guys ever make Sync3 hardware kits that we can retrofit onto 2013-2016 Fusions? I know it's already technically possible to do so as someone with inside knowledge at Ford got Sync3 retrofitted into a 2013 Taurus. Many of us including myself are more than happy to pay a grand or two for this. Sync3 is a fantastic system that should have been available from the start (honestly how did MFT make it past quality control?). It's not realistic to expect people to replace their cars just to have Sync3, so this could be a nice source of revenue for you guys.
thrasher086 Report post Posted December 15, 2015 Yeah I would hope this is an option in the future. A grand+ is a little steep in my eyes as I do not view MyFord Touch as poorly as some others may, but I would consider a few hundred for an in-place upgrade. It would be nice if they continue updates with some features here and there such as enabling Applink. Then I would have no problem keeping MyFord Touch till the rest of the car life. machoman1337 Report post Posted December 15, 2015 (edited) US dollars are fine (I'd expect it to be quoted in USD). I stocked up on enough USD during the parity days anyway. Btw thrasher, your dealership is nice to give you an Energi loaner! I've had 2 loaners before and they were a Fiesta (which I detested) and a Focus (ok, but I'd prefer a Fusion even a base model). Only problem, it wasn't charged and I live in an apartment so I could only use it as a regular hybrid.

thrasher086 Report post Posted December 16, 2015 Interesting. Too much for me but would love to see in a year or 2 how it is handled with installations and how it runs.

I can't speculate on future products, but as it stands now, we do not plan on offering an aftermarket SYNC 3 kit. With that said, I encourage you both to head over to Social.Ford.com and get your voices heard. Our product engineers periodically check that site for insight as to what our customers are looking for. Rebecca
