Consistent 60 MPG is obtainable for me sometimes by driving like a granny

Recommended Posts

Lest you think I'm "hindering your progress" if you were to drive the same streets which I use to commute back and forth to work, I will catch up to you at the very next traffic light, over and over, 95% of the time. ;) So are those higher speeds really making any better progress?

This is my best MPG for a single Trip 1 reset. All of the driving has been on city streets, doing 35-50 MPH (mostly 35 MPH), with the temps either at the low around 65° or at the high of around 85°. I keep learning the car better and better, and also learning how to time the traffic lights for the least amount of braking.

When I accelerate, I don't try to keep it in EV mode, but I am rarely over 1.5 bars on the Empower screen. But if you were behind me, you would swear I was accelerating like a granny. I am able to notice my MPGs going downwards if I spend much time at 40 MPH versus 35 MPH. But I do occasionally gently accelerate up to 50 MPH to avoid missing a traffic light, which would cause me to spend all of that precious energy getting my 3300 lb FFH back up to speed after a stop.

Here is my second best MPG (59 MPG), but with the distance being twice as many miles as I am currently at now on this Trip 1 reset.

I thought I would have to wait until next year to have a chance at getting to the 60 MPG plateau, since the temperatures here will be reaching the point in a week or two where I will most likely be using the A/C for the rest of the summer. When I have used the A/C recently on the way home from work, my MPGs have dropped by at least 4 MPG for the 25-mile trip home, and that is with a setting of 76° on the Auto climate setting. But no matter how badly I want to reach ever-higher MPGs, I will not force myself to sweat to do it. :)

Great job on the MPG... and I live the above comment day in and day out, thought it may be fitting to get a license plate frame that on top frame says "Hurry Up!" and then on bottom frame "Red Light's Waiting" as that indeed it how it works out 95% of the time.

Drive Smarter, Not Faster

The other day some MORON, yeah thats the best description for this bubba in a pickup. Behind me and two others at a light, light turns green, and we weren't moving fast enough to the next RED light. So he floors it, goes around us, and RACES to the left turn lane and stops behind 2 other cars. I passed him just as the light turns green. So while he was sitting waiting, I never touched my brakes and made it through the intersection before he even reached it.

Same for me! Over the course of 20 miles or so I see the same group of cars at the first light all the way to the last before the freeway. Interestingly it's always the same people day in and day out and they just don't get it.

Fantastic MPGs!! The clueless shall remain that way. Best you can do sometimes is stay out of their way. Those are the folks that cause accidents, but will then try and blame you! It's a crazy world out there, but then again, all you have to do is glance at your dash and smile. :)

Justice is SWEET. Today I was following a pickup that was up and down and slowed to a crawl through a ramp that I take at 60, so I passed it, the guy behind me passed the truck, AND passed me. I set my cruise at 61 which in real speed it 59/60 GPS. He was GONE. Well, about 10 miles up the road, there he was sitting on the side of the raod, with a county car behind him with the lights going. He got NAILED! I LOL so hard I had tears.

BTW if you drive a vehicle with company information on it, like say Klein Tools, its usually not a good idea to be driving like a moron. LOL
