People buy hybrids for different reasons as this video mentions;

Today was my best tank even with 100 temps. 46.9 mpg

I have found the best approached when questioned about fuel economy is break it down to price for driving 300 miles. Most of the people with guzzlers don't fill the tank because they hit $75 limit at a lot of pumps so they end up filling with a fixed amount like $20-$40 for example. I tell them that for that same $20 I can drive around 300 miles. Usually at that point the mouth drops open and I smile while walking away.

I purchased the Ford ESP 100k/5yr warranty when I bought the car. The price at the time was $1800.

I had the same Continental PureContact with EcoPlus on my previous Passat TDI and had about 15k when I traded. At that time they had no signs of wear. I currently have about 3000 miles on the Fusion so at this point its too early to form any opinion. The Continentals were on the fuel economy record setting Passat TDI in this article; http://www.continental-tires.com/www/tires_de_en/themes/news/meldungen/pr_2013_07_09_record_en.html

Yes, the exact same tire purchased from Discount Tire.
-
I replaced the stock 18" tires with a set of the PureContact within the first 500 miles.

Depending upon how you drive I would think the Fusion Hybrid would wear tires faster due to the available torque from 0 RPM. Tire stress due to rotational forces would be greater when attempting to inititate the 3600 lbs of mass into motion with the electric motors 177lbs of torque. No gas engine aside from a manual equipped car revving and dumping the clutch would produce those type of forces from a complete stop. Tesla and high torque diesel equipped cars have the problem of faster tire wear due to this.

Help with a hybrid buying decision...

The nice thing about towing the Energi behind your RV is the abundance of 240 charging at the RV parks you probably visit. I had a Lexus IS350 and I would rate the Fusion as quiet and a better ride quality. -
Sorry about your accident. When my wifes C-Max was hit from behind a couple of months ago I took it straight to the Ford dealers body shop for the $5000.00 worth of repairs required. The C-Max has driven fine ever since its return from the body shop.

I bought the Ford factory weather proof mats for $83.00 total cost for front and rear. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009D3Y6OG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

http://www.autonews.com/article/20140813/OEM11/140819974/u-s-appoints-former-federal-prosecutor-to-be-toyota-safety-monitor?cciid=email-autonews-daily&r=1662A7062245D8K TOKYO (Bloomberg) -- Former U.S. Attorney David Kelley has been appointed as the government monitor who will supervise Toyota Motor Corp.’s safety after the company’s mishandling of vehicle recalls for unintended acceleration. Toyota spokesman Keisuke Kirimoto confirmed the U.S. Justice Department’s appointment of Kelley. The carmaker expects to have “a cooperative and constructive working relationship with Mr. Kelley,” he said. Kelley, a New York-based partner at Cahill Gordon & Reindel LLP, will review Toyota’s policies, safety procedures and verify the accuracy of its public statements. The monitor position is part of a settlement in March, whereby Toyota paid a record $1.2 billion penalty and admitted it misled U.S. consumers in 2009 and 2010 about problems with its cars over unintended acceleration. The appointment comes as the Justice Department and Congress investigate General Motors Co. for its handling of defective ignition switches linked to at least 13 deaths. GM has called back about 29 million vehicles in North America this year, a record. For Toyota, the recalls blemished its reputation for quality and led to the company losing its title as the world’s top-selling automaker to GM. Toyota regained the industry lead in each of the last two years and clung to a slim lead over Volkswagen AG through the first half of 2014.

Just hit my best tank yet at 46 mpg with 3200 miles.

Accident!! In the Focus Electric
darrelld replied to hybridbear's topic in Lounge - Off Topic Discussion
Sorry about your accident. I would make certain about lease implications and require compensation if the lease is affected. The lady that hit my wife's C-Max was well along in her pregnancy. -
I fell for the Toyota marketing too when I purchased my 2006 Lexus IS350, major recalls, mechanical issues, and safety problems. My Lexus had the unintended acceleration issue early on and fortunately I was able to bring it under control by smashing my foot against the accelerator pedal multiple times to unstick. This family wasn't so fortunate; My previous VW Passat TDI was at the dealer for service only a fraction of the number of Lexus dealer visits.

I think a large number of Camry drivers never check those crash ratings. My coworker leased a Camry last year to shuttle his kids around in. After I pointed him to the IIHS ratings for the Camry he said there was no way he would have leased a Camry had he known those results.
-
Its amazing how many people bought the Camry prior to Jan 2014 with such terrible small offset crash ratings. http://www.iihs.org/iihs/ratings/vehicle/v/toyota/camry

Could FFH be used as emergency home generator?
darrelld replied to Texasota's topic in Batteries & Charging
I suppose it would depend upon how large an electric motor they use in the urban areas. My 20k generator is no louder than the neighbors lawnmower. Granted I am using 20k single phase and the NG pumps are probably 3 phase and could require much larger generators but the problem is certainly addressable if they wanted to invest the capital. There is an interesting read about how the founder of the Chevy Volt site managed during Hurricane Sandy outages using a Generac 20k generator. http://insideevs.com/driving-electric-cars-during-blackouts-and-gas-crises/ -

You would think the natural gas pumps would have backup generators powered by natural gas. The generators could have volume tanks to maintain pressure during startup. -

The natural gas powered Generac will also run on propane. The Generac has a simple valve you turn to switch the type of fuel. My system came with an 200 amp automatic transfer switch as part of the install. The transfer switch will cut over the power if it detects an outage or if power becomes unstable for up to 15 seconds. -
42.5 with 3025 miles. I reset the average at every tank and noticed the last tank was 7 miles per gallon below the displayed mpg. Previous tank was within 1 mpg of the display. I always fill at lowest pump setting and stop filling when the pump auto shuts off. I believe pump shut off variations can cause these type of swings in reported vs actual mpg.

You are correct about the 8 ga wire, I typoed the size as it should read 2 ga. I never planned to run the whole house through 2 single pole 20 amp breakers, but only esential circuits like the control voltage for the central heat, powering up the variable frequency blower motor, and a refrigerator. The inverter was oversized because I got a good deal. The wire I have is here; http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000J1AQS6/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1 -

I agree about not risking damage to your Fusions electronics by trying this. Earlier this year I installed a 20k whole house Generac natural gas powered generator for around 10k. Prior to installing the Generac I checked out a number of options for using the C-Max as a Generator and currently have, 20' 8 gauge wire, a 2500 watt inverter, and 2 single pole generator disconnects for electrical panel interface. I would sell all the parts to the project if anyone is interested. My plan was to mount the inverter on the wall close to my electrical panel located near the garage door opening and use the 8 ga wire to feed the inverter from the C-Max battery jump points located under the hood. I wasn't certain the inverter circuit could withstand sustained current draw at the level required by the 2500 watt inverter feeding the house electrical panel through the generator disconnect.
