  1. according to a post in another forum, it's a blue/orange wire that runs in a harness along the driver's side floor. click here for more details. good luck :)
  2. there's no more security risk with a keypad than there is without one. it's just like lock-picking... thieves don't pick locks, it's not worth the time it takes to do it. the same is true for figuring out a key code. the Fusion is not an expensive car, chances are it will get broken into to steal items out of it, not to steal the car itself. for this reason the thief will simply smash the window, grab whatever they want to steal, and walk away. they're not going to sit there like a fool punching in random numbers hoping to get lucky. in the owner's manual, it states that the battery is not replaceable and simply tells you to buy a new keypad when the battery dies. it obviously has a replaceable battery inside, but the unit is basically glued together to keep water out. I'm not sure how easy it would be to open the unit up without breaking apart. I suppose it depends on what is stronger (the plastic or the glue). If you could get it open without breaking it then you could replace the battery and glue it back together, otherwise you will have have buy a new one.
  3. the North American nav units are made by Pioneer (don't know the exact model#) I think the European nav units are made by Denso. contact Ford to see if they offer a European DVD for the American navigation (Pioneer) system, or contact Pioneer to see if a European DVD for one of their aftermarket models might work with it? good luck :)
  4. Holy old thread Batman!! :hysterical2: for the benefit of others who Google this out, the answer as far as I could determine is NO. wrong... :finger: The Fusion does indeed have an antenna booster. the power wire for it is pin#5 on the main radio harness (violet/black)
  5. you said in your first post that you "may have to get a SIRIUS radio to get the option(s) I really want"... I don't think factory Sirius is standard on any Fusion, regardless of trim level. I think that's just the way the dealer ordered them. if it's only a $200 option then you can probably negotiate that out of the sale price ;) regarding the radios themselves, per your first post... Fusion S models have the "standard" single disc CD player, Fusion SE and SEL models come with the "premium" 6-disc CD changer radio. the "audiophile" option is available on both SE and SEL models, it adds two 6x9's to the rear deck and powers them from a small external amplifier (it's expensive and won't sound good enough to justify the extra cost ;)) the factory radios that come in the Fusion/Milan are made by Visteon, they have weak amplifiers, basic fixed-digit displays that make it hard to read text on, and they are very limited when it comes to adjusting sound output. the only stock head unit that's any good in the Fusion/Milan is the factory nav unit. it's made by Pioneer and is in general a much better head unit (both audio and visual) than the stock radio-only. it also has a more powerful amplifier so your music will sound alot better. it's overpriced if you get it as a factory option ($1500 I think?) but you can buy the same factory nav unit on eBay for around $500-$600, which isn't a bad deal for what it offers. good luck with your car shopping :D
  6. there is no "Sirius radio"... the Sirius "factory option" uses a separate Sirius tuner that plugs into the back of the stock radio. the radio itself is the same regardless of whether or not the car had Sirius from the factory. if you find a car you like with Sirius in it already then good... but don't limit your selection to only cars that have it. you don't have to buy the car with that option, it can be added anytime (it just plugs into the back of the radio, so you can do it yourself, no need to pay Ford techs to install it) good luck :)
  7. that's a nice unit... why sell it? put that baby in your Fusion :D
  8. yes, both issues are normal for the fusion the Fusion is also my first car that where the tank can't be topped off (yet for some stupid reason I always try anyways, lol ;))
  9. if your reception was fine, then why bother? it looks better without the mast. it would be funny to see what the dealer would charge to "install" the mast. it literally takes about 5 seconds to install (since it simply screws in) but they would charge a minimum 1 hour labor rate ($90/hr?)
  10. do you press the remote lock button before or after closing the door? in my car the lights stay on if I press the remote lock button with the door open. If I lock the doors after all doors are closed then the lights shut off instantly.
  11. I know this thread is old, but just to clarify for anybody with an S that wants to add factory tweeters... YOU CAN buy the stock tweeters (and almost any other factory part) at the dealership parts counter. some dealers seem to have a hard time finding certain parts (this may be a software issue on their end) but the parts ARE available. some dealers let you buy parts online and will ship them out anywhere. teamfordparts.com sells the stock tweeter for $21 (to find it, go to instrument panel > sound system > tweeter). I ordered an MKZ antenna from them, after my local dealer said it wasn't available
  12. ruling out the charger or the car as the cause is simple... try it in a different car :finger: the charger is much more likely to be the problem, not your power outlets. the power outlets in the Fusion will function the same on any other car. there's no electronics involved, it's just a direct ~12vdc feed (from the fuse box). :shift:
  13. I don't have that issue (because I don't have an SEL)... but it seems to me that the easiest solution would be to simply replace the "electrochromatic" mirror with the standard day/night mirror that the S and SE's use. it's $29 at teamfordparts.com. it should be about the same price at your local dealer. you can probably get $100 on eBay for the SEL mirror ;) :shift:
  14. hmmmm.... poor quality of Ford factory radios + the unreliability of Micro$oft products = nothing but problems... [buy aftermarket :happy feet: ] regarding your specific issue, is there a way to update the ford system? via USB or another method? they may have a bug fix for it. :shift:
  15. I doubt there is any pre-installed wiring for it, it's not a complicated system, it's just a bunch on LEDs with a control module. if you feel like wasting $279 you can buy the factory "option" as an add-on from a dealer's parts dept (it's available in the Ford accessories catalog). IMO it's a complete waste of money and the only part of it that looks good is the cupholders. the floor lighting from what I have read is only a single LED per footwell (for $279 I would expect a full LED light strip under the dashboard on both sides, and under the seats to illuminate the back foor). it wouldn't be very hard to add your own ambient lighting, and it would cost alot less than the overpriced factory kit... for a single color system you can get a couple LED light strips or flexible LED light strips (to mount under the dash) for less than $20 each.[/li] light strips would provide a much better looking, uniform ambient lighting in the footwells than they factory system's single LED could ever do. for the cupholder, buy a small/thin acrylic sheet (~$5 on eBay) and cut an opening to match the cupholder opening, then light up the acrylic sheet with LEDs. an [easier] alternative would be put washers inbetween the "cups" and the console panel to leave a gap for light to pass through (no acrylic needed) and wrap a flexible LED light strip (or strips) around the opening. with multiple LEDs all shining in would light anything in the cupholders up pretty good. for a multi-color system you would need RGB LEDs and a color change controller (you can buy them pre-made or buy a kit to make your own). you can also add a dimmer to either setup to adjust the light intensity. :shift:
  16. here are a couple pics of my Fusion with an MKZ antenna, in case anybody is wondering what it would look like if they did it. I only comes in flat black (like the Fusion mast antenna), so you'll have to paint it if you want it to look good. if you've ever tried to paint plastic before, you'll know that you can't use just any paint. enamel paints are pretty much the only kind that will stick. I used Krylon Fusion [gloss black] and then sprayed clear lacquer over the paint after it cured. it matches the paint pretty good and it looks ten times better than the ugly Fusion mast antenna. :shift:
  17. it's a dealer-only part so the price depends on what the dealer wants to sell it for. any ford , Lincoln, or mercury dealer should be able to order parts for all the ford brands (just call them for a price) there are some dealers which allow you to purchase parts online. I bought my MKZ shark fin at TeamFordParts.com they charge $46.65 for it there. if the link doesn't work then select 2007 lincoln MKZ > electrical > antenna > base. it's not the same antenna as the Fusion. it is Sirius ONLY, there is no FM receiver inside it, so you have to keep to Fusion's "insides" and just swap the outer casing. if you live in the city then you're FM reception won't change much without the mast, but if you live far away from the station transmitters then you may need to extend the antenna. I did this on mine by crimping a male flat terminal on some speaker wire and connecting it to the mast connector (female terminal). then drilled a hole through the antenna connector (where the factory Sirius connection would have been) and passed the wire through that, my reception is even better now than it was with the ugly Fusion antenna :) :shift:
