I ended up removing that black foam insert, buying a matching tire from ebay and now I have a spare tire. Cost was under $150. I don't like driving around without a spare.

Sync 3 to get Android Auto/Apple Carplay
heywardjr replied to Bryan Burch's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
Update: I just downloaded the Sync 3 Version 1.0 to Sync 3 Version 2.2 which includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. I had to replace the USB hub with the new USB3 hub which was easy to do...two second update. The software update was easy and trouble free. I am now fully satisfied/thrilled with full Sync 3 functionality. It all works great and well worth every single penny spent. Here is the update posted: http://www.2gfusions.net/showthread.php?tid=3881&pid=100870#pid100870 OEMAuto also can sell the Ford USB3 hub : http://www.oemautopa...iant=6929649153 I've found no issues whatsoever. The system is great!!! -
High Speed Interstate Cruising Behavior
heywardjr replied to rainydaze's topic in 2013-2016 Fusion Hybrid
I've been amazed at how well it handles at high speed. It's fine for me and I travel between Virginia and Ohio at 70-80MPH and still have plenty of pickup to pass when needed. This is a fantastic vehicle and I am very happy all around.....SYNC2 sucks but I just purchased the Sync2 to Sync3 third party option and I love Sync 3 in my 2016 Fusion Hybrid. I took care of that objection but it was not a cheap option! -
Sync 3 to get Android Auto/Apple Carplay

@MACHOMAN1337 - After using it a month now I'm very happy with it. The screens are very fast and bright. I'm waiting for the Sync 3 update in December and I will look for that. It's supposed to be a wifi type download/automatic upgrade when the unit sees wifi availability. I use a Google Fi hot spot to supply wifi to the unit when I drive it. The Google Fi supplies a Nexus 6P phone and I just use it for hotspot situations at work and for the car. -
I got the A7 update off eBay for $70 this week.

Sync 3 to get Android Auto/Apple Carplay
heywardjr replied to Bryan Burch's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
Yes, the energy flow screen is there. Android and Apple support is coming with the December Sync 3 update according to Ford (thru the supplier programmer). I got the mobile apps like Pandora, iHeartAuto, Spotify as well as another mapping app that reports your location to Facebook (no way I'm using that but it's there for Facebook addicts). When you launch a mobile app on your iPhone then they show up on the Sync 3 screen as an audio source. Really nice. As Ford offers more of these specially built apps it will be fantastic. Ford is developing the Amazon Alexa interface so that when you launch Amazon Alexa on your iPhone, then you will be able to use the Amazon Dot in your Ford.....talk to Alexa and ask her to play something or read a book. I have the Amazon Dot installed in my Fusion now and have it plugged into the back via a non-vehicle connected USB port for power. The DOT cannot connect to Sync today because Sync won't support devices that require a blue tooth pin but Ford and Amazon are working to change that. I also expect that in December. So far, I love the Sync 3 interface and it is so much faster in responding to touch. Apparently, Wifi is how updates will happen. Today with Sync 3 it uses Wifi to update the mobile apps and it will be the same method when the next Sync update comes in December. -
Sync 3 to get Android Auto/Apple Carplay

UPDATE: 08/31/2016 MFT to Sync 3 Upgrade Made this week on my 2016 Ford Fusion Hybrid I got word that most of the kinks had been worked out with the upgrade. I re-purchased the product and did the easy install. The interface is fantastic. I had a long trip from Aldie, VA to Baltimore, MD last night proved the unit is so much better. The interface is very fast, much more colorful, navigation is really pretty different and much faster. The music options include Pandora using the Pandora app and the Pandora logo under audio sources. The things not working yet: 1. Apple CarPlay 2. Android Play 3. Vehicle Health Report Ford has a mobile app called FordPass. When you open it up it pairs with your iPhone. When you try to use it with this Sync3 unit, it displays an error on screen saying your vehicle does not support vehicle health report. I inquired with the programmer of this unit and the VHR is not located in the Sync3 unit but somewhere in the car computer. They are unable to connect with the VHR via the software as Ford has it blocked and that feature is not supported via their API. They are continuing to investigate. As for Apple Airplay/Android Play they are awaiting an update from Ford this fall. It's unclear at this point if the update is a Sync 3 update or a bios update. The developer thinks it's a Sync3 update which means a download and USB chip insertion process rather than sending the unit back for the update. I'm not all that much attached to the VHR so this is not much of an issue. I do want Apple CarPlay at times so I will await the update on that. I do recommend this upgrade if you can afford it. Use the military discount of MILI to save a couple hundred dollars. I chose the i year service plan as I figure the updates will be needed and that covers me as they come along. Your choice of course. I figure the MILI discount pays for that. I have no affiliation with OEM Parts and I get no payment or credit for this review with them. Here is the link: http://www.oemautopartsco.com/products/myford-touch-sync-2-to-sync-3-upgrade?variant=6929649153 If you want I can post pictures of the screens. The install process is so easy as I've done it several times now. It's a matter of removing layers of plastic parts that all snap out and back in again. I have a plastic tool that I use to pry the plastic tail around the center radio area and gear shift area. Once all the trim is removed there are two bolts at the top of the radio and two below. Remove those carefully. Then the unit pulls outs slowly. Remove the two electrical wiring harnesses below for fan controls and radio as well as the two electrical harnesses on back of the radio itself. Remove four screws on radio to separate the display unit. Remove the metal frame on both side by removing 4 screws. Take the new unit and install the metal frame. Next, install the wiring in reverse of removal. You will need to take a satellite transponder which comes with the upgrade and plug that in then run the wire behind the glove box and up to your dash where you place a tiny square GPS transponder on top of the dash near the windshield. Next reverse everything and you are good to go. Once you've done it it's easy. -
Ethanol attracts water into gasoline over time. I don't commute to an office (home office or fly to customers) and so my vehicles (Ford Sport Trac and the new Ford Fusion Hybrid) sit for awhile before they are driven. That sitting can attract water vapor into the tank unless I keep the tank on full most of the time. I could use a fuel additive but ethanol free gas prevents that attraction of water vapor. It's also recommended to use ethanol free on your lawn mower and other devices as it's just better for those smaller engines as well. Since I can get ethanol free why not if price is not an issue for me ($.20 difference here) since I don't drive that much. I don't believe in supporting the ethanol mandates as well. It's all a scam to help very large agri-business conglomerates in my opinion. Not more power but I do get better mileage on both vehicles and I have 4 stations within easy driving distance so sometimes the price is just a few cents higher than regular. I have seen rough performance if the Sport Trac has been sitting for a month when I used regular gas....I attribute that to water in the tank...once I filled up it was fine. It's really a personal preference and if you can get it close to regular price.

I've had the 2016 Fusion Hybrid Titanium since January and my average is 41.7MPG but many trips reflect 52 - 57mpg (locals on flat land and hills where hill was downhill to my house). I only use 100% gasoline with no ethanol unless I'm on a long haul trip somewhere. If I used regular gas the average would be a couple mile per gallon lower. I happen to have an app on my iPhone called Pure Gas which shows stations nearby that offer 100% gasoline. Sure, the gas is a little more expensive but my Fusion and my Ford Explorer Sport Trac run a lot better on this gas than ethanol based. I've been doing this the last 5 years. This only really applies to those that are located outside city limits as rules won't allow 100% gas to be sold in certain areas with heavier populations. But if you live in the suburbs in many places there is a station or two within 20 miles most likely. I use this gas in all of my lawn equipment as well.

Sync 3 to get Android Auto/Apple Carplay
heywardjr replied to Bryan Burch's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
I'll point out these were Ford parts not aftermarket. I suspect this reseller is buying the parts and reselling to us but if we tried to buy these from Ford they would not allow us as these are for the 2017 model I would bet. Why Ford does not provide a program where we can make the choice ourselves to upgrade (by paying the dealer) is beyond me. Too lazy or too worried everything might not work. Not sure. I'll let you know if and when OEMParts comes thru with a working solution. -
Sync 3 to get Android Auto/Apple Carplay
heywardjr replied to Bryan Burch's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
I did not video the look and feel or install as it looks the same as the original screen except that the OS (based on Blackberry OS). It was very much faster and brighter. I liked it a lot except much of it was not working properly or missing things like the Navigation or Apple CarPlay. I don't recall anything about supporting Android or Google Play. I checked with the reseller this week and still no updates to report. As for the two small screws...I did not touch those. I had to remove the plastic dash pieces to get access, then remove two large bolts on the sides of the screen, then the unit pulls right out. I removed the screen and plugged in the new one, then plugged in the main cables. Then the dash bolts, and then the plastic dash pieces to finish it off. -
I have always gone to the Ford dealer for oil changes or I do them myself. There is a reason these oil change places are cheap. You get what you pay for. I have never had any issue with my Ford dealer in 30 years so I have no reason not to use the dealer. Price is not all that much different by the way. Many times, over a period, I earn points at the dealer which means I get free oil changes. If I run into trouble with a Ford dealer, at least I know I can complain up the food chain and maybe get some action. Not sure I can do that at a place like Jiffy Lube. I have also heard from friends who have had a similar oil change issue after leaving Jiffy Lube and they had failed to add oil to the engine after emptying it. Seems that quality control was lacking. So, my advice is to use the Ford dealer you trust. Or find a dealer you have checked out through other people.

Wow. I read this with dis-belief. I think the hood is very well designed and wonderful. OMG. Did you buy the car new? This is the quietest car I've ever owned in 40 years. It's wonderfully designed and I compared it to Honda and Chevy. Absolutely no comparison to any of the others in terms of design, features, beauty, and quietness! I suggest taking it back to the dealer and see what is wrong. This is not normal and your hood should not be as you describe. BTW....I just installed 3rd party hood struts to eliminate the need for that single pole to hold up the hood. The struts work great and so easy to install. Saw an ad on one of the advertisers of this website. It is a wonderful and cheap addition.

Many gas pumps won't stay on without holding
heywardjr replied to mwr's topic in Lounge - Fusion Hybrid Talk
I've not had any issue with mine at any station here in Northern Virginia, Maryland, PA, or Ohio where I usually drive. Maybe it's a location issue or brand name issue. I always use Sunocco stations. -

By the way, for those veterans, OEMAutoParts offers a 10% discount. Just enter MILI in the coupon field and it gets discounts. AT least it worked for me on June 3rd. You might check with them if you order this after they get this working properly. -
Sync 3 to get Android Auto/Apple Carplay
heywardjr replied to Bryan Burch's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
It would not void your Ford Warranty. You could easily re-install the original radio back into the car if you had some audio issue. If the issue still was there then you'd know if it was the new unit or the old one or the car. Take the car into the dealer with the old radio installed, they fix the audio problem and then replace the radio when you get home. It's all of 4 acres to take the old radio out and the plastic pipes all come out by using your hand to pry them out. Takes 10 minutes max to replace this. -
Sync 3 to get Android Auto/Apple Carplay

I purchased the SYNC2 to SYNC3 upgrade from OEM as listed in this forum. That was on June 3rd. I am returning it today at the request of OEM as it is not ready for customers and was shipped unfinished. I loved the interface and they will credit me the $2,000. They will notify me when it is ready which could be a week from now, a month, several months. Here is what worked: 1. Audio functions including Pandora and other music apps I had on my Android and iPhone. 2. Night mode and Day mode 3. Phone functions What was not working: 1. Apple Airplay 2. No navigation icon 3. No climate controls would work...buttons were there and beeped but they did nothing to the vehicle 4. No ambient light controls worked 5. Pandora app would appear and disappear whenever....no reason 6. No updates happened OEM was very apologetic. They were sold units but had not fully tested them before selling to me (I must have been first) They will notify me when they get an updated software that works. I LOVED the interface and the speed of the screen This is a total replacement of the screen and box behind the screen. Easy to install once you know how to remove all the pieces to get to the radio. I had to install an additional GPS satellite which I just ran the wire from my dash to the back of the unit. It did have an additional USB port on back which would be handy to have. I'd recommend it as the whole experience is a ton better. Yes, $2,000 is a lot but to me it was worth it for a $42,000 car with all the bells and whistles. When I get an updated unit I'll come back and let you all know. -
