Yeah, I'm scared to death of those Sarasota winters we have. Might see 50 this year... Brutal down here :)

Good tip!! I was pressing max AC , and then the temp went to LO automatically. I'll use your option next time.

Ford fuel efficiency update guinea pig testers
kbailey990 replied to hybridbear's topic in Fuel Mileage
That's a great review of the benefit of the grill cover for those of you in the cold country. Do you know if the new PCM will allow the active shutters to stay closed when turned off next winter? I'm in Florida, so I'm not worried as much about freezing temps!- 235 replies

What can Ford do to make the Fusion Even better?
kbailey990 replied to acdii's topic in Lounge - Fusion Hybrid Talk
I agree that every light bulb has an MPG cost, but IIHS review shows that DRL provides too much of a safety benefit to be lumped in with the "power drain" category. I have an appointment Friday to have mine turned on. Thanks Gry Sql for showing that DRL can be turned on. -
Daytime Running lights?
kbailey990 replied to Ric's topic in Glass, Headlights, Fog lamps, Lenses & Window Tint
I'g going to the dealer in the next few days to have the Fuel Delivery System TSB performed, and I'll ask for the DRL at that time. I'll let you know what the dealer says, and I'll be sure to have a printout of this thread showing that it can be done! Here's info from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety about the huge safety benefits of DRL: http://www.iihs.org/iihs/topics/t/crash-avoidance-technologies/qanda#daytime-running-lights How effective are DRLs? Nearly all published reports indicate DRLs reduce multiple-vehicle daytime crashes. A study examining the effect of Norway's DRL law from 1980 to 1990 found a 10 percent decline in daytime multiple-vehicle crashes. 29 A Danish study reported a 7 percent reduction in DRL-relevant crashes in the first 15 months after DRL use was required and a 37 percent decline in left-turn crashes. 30 In a second study covering two years and nine months of Denmark's law, there was a 6 percent reduction in daytime multiple-vehicle crashes and a 34 percent reduction in left-turn crashes. 31 A 1994 Transport Canada study comparing 1990 model year vehicles with DRLs to 1989 vehicles without them found that DRLs reduced relevant daytime multiple-vehicle crashes by 11 percent. 32 In the United States, a 1985 Institute study determined that commercial fleet passenger vehicles modified to operate with DRLs were involved in 7 percent fewer daytime multiple-vehicle crashes than similar vehicles without DRLs. 33 A small-scale fleet study conducted in the 1960s found an 18 percent lower daytime multiple-vehicle crash rate for DRL-equipped vehicles. 34 Multiple-vehicle daytime crashes account for about half of all police-reported crashes in the United States. A 2002 Institute study reported a 3 percent decline in daytime multiple-vehicle crash risk in nine U.S. states concurrent with the introduction of DRLs. 35 Federal researchers, using data collected nationwide from 1995 to 2001, concluded that there was a 5 percent decline in daytime, two-vehicle, opposite-direction crashes and a 12 percent decline in fatal crashes with pedestrians and bicyclists. 36 However, a 2008 federal study concluded that DRLs have no significant effect on either of these crash types. 37 Will DRLs shorten headlamp bulb life or lower fuel economy? Running vehicle lights in the daytime does not significantly shorten bulb life. Systems like those on GM cars that use high beams are designed to operate at half their normal power during daylight hours, thereby conserving energy and reducing the effect on a vehicle's fuel economy. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that only a fraction of a mile per gallon will be lost, depending on the type of system used. -
You're right, Barsoom. This is the most relaxing car I've ever driven. I have a 47 mile each way daily interstate commute, and I often have to drive 8 hours of flat Florida freeways for family fun. I set the following distance to "4", set the cruise control to 70, get in the right-hand lane and stay there. Ahhh! relaxxx and enjoyyy... BLIS and Lane Keeping Assist help me out, and I still get great mileage. The ACC speeds up and slows down on it's own, and there've been times when I've driven for hours and never touched a pedal. Windshield wipers and head lights come on by themselves; high beams, low beams on automatic... What's left to get uptight about?

Daytime Running lights?

Thanks GrySql for testing this for us. Please let us know how to coach our dealer into turning them on. I've always felt that the potential safety benefit of DRL offset the small energy cost. -
Ford fuel efficiency update guinea pig testers
kbailey990 replied to hybridbear's topic in Fuel Mileage
Thank you for helping out! The first upgrade didn't work, and I took it back to the dealer yesterday. The corrected upgrade is fantastic! I was getting 43 mpg, and I got 48 mpg on this morning's 47 mile commute.- 235 replies

Ford fuel efficiency update guinea pig testers
kbailey990 replied to hybridbear's topic in Fuel Mileage
How can I tell what version I have? I had the upgrade installed on Friday, But I never got into EV mode above 62 MPH all weekend. I coasted downhill going over the Sunshine Skyway bridge twice! Is there a way to check the software version without going all the way back to the dealer?- 235 replies
