2013 Hybrid SE won’t start after left key on overnight
Sleddog replied to RobertIverson's topic in 2013-2016 Fusion Hybrid
Have you tried pulling the HVB disconnect behind the driver's side rear seat? That should give the system a complete reset. I'm not sure if you need some hybrid battery power to get the system running. -
Been a while since I posted, but here's an update on my 2013 Fusion Hybrid. Lifetime MPG now at 53.3, down from a high of 54, 3.5 years ago. I think the drop was due to tires and some hybrid battery aging. I replaced my OEMs with OEMS and they just didn't seem to work as well or seem as sure-footed. They were replaced at 60,000. Fusion went in today for a battery replacement. The small one in the trunk. So I got almost 9 years out of it. Not too bad. It was the 99R 390 amp version. The new version is 470 amps. I notice it was on the way out when I started getting to alarm tones for the rear sensors and drive assist items, but not being play with the enhanced sound normally heard from the audio system. But being played by the default sounds. Mid week they would return to normal (enhanced sounds) then back to default sounds the next day. Then the battery saver would activate when I got the car in the mornings. The dash display panels to the left and right of the speedo would not light up until I turn the key to the run position. While the service advisor was checking me in, he noticed the left side front tire had cords showing on the inside. Same with the left side rear since they rotate them on the same side. I think it had something to do with the tires themselves, along with an alignment issue. The rights had abnormal wear, but not the same as the left, along with center tread separation in one small spot on the rear. The car's suspension is fine. No OEM Michelins this time. Besides, they are on national back order. It got a set of Kelley tires, since that's all they had available or could get in a reasonable amount of time. When they took the rears off, the brake pads had about 1MM left on them and the rear rotors were below the point that they could turn them, they were also rusted with deep grooves. So new pads and rotors. The fronts were fine. With a battery, 4 tires, installation costs, alignment, new rear pads and rotors, the bill came to 1496.00 Not too bad for almost 9 years of great service. When it goes in the 100,000 mile oil change, it will also get plugs.

I finally hit 54 MPG lifetime. It took while, but my average over the last 6000+ is 55 MPG. With the mileage on the car, I may see 55. But I'm not sure. For those looking at the mileage vs. EV and Regen, remember, the early models got a software update a few years back update that zeroed one or both of those.

Inconsistent difference between displayed and actual mpg
Sleddog replied to mwr's topic in Fuel Mileage
When I filled up today, using the same pump I usually do, My gallons pumped was .4 of gallon less then the trip meter showed I used. That's the highest difference I've had. Usually, I'm +/- .1 to .2 less or more then the gallons used on the trip meter. My last fill up was 2 weeks ago. When I fill up again in 2 weeks I'll see what the difference is just in case some type of maintenance was done to the pump. My mileage for this tank was 56 according to the car, but the hand calculation was 58.3 My driving routine was normal, with a couple of side trips I make once in a great while. -
Seriously, you have to ask? Ice Storm!

My lifetime just clicked over to 53.5 today! Total miles 22991.

Congrats and Welcome!

I listen to Chill and Spa. That's 99% of what I listen to. I can build a better set of stations on Pandora. I've listened to a lot of this type of music and with the amount of artist available they still repeat stuff. They don't even play more of the main stream artist like Phutureprimitive, Blackmill, Solar Fields, Hybrid or Leftfield. They do hit Blank and Jones, M7 and Lemon Jelly once in a while. The rest is a lot of house artists and groups that don't get a lot of play outside the clubs. The average playlist for a rock station is about 350 songs in continual rotation. Sirius has access to much more than that number. But they still repeat the same songs in a rotation. So when the subscription ends, no more renewing. Pandora, Digitally Imported Radio, iHeart cost me nothing to stream in the car. About the only thing I would be interested in Sirius Travel and Travel link.
-
That's OK, the price was right. And after 1 day of listening to it, I remember why stopped renewing it and went to Pandora. I can hear the same music going to work and coming home.... Just like my local radio stations.
-
Just did that offer today.... I'll probably let it expire again once it's over.

Congrats!

One of the only few advantages of living in Florida, the weather in the summer, and the tourist and snowbirds certainly aren't. It's flat for the most part. But the use of A/C makes it very challenging to get good mileage on my trip home. I have to take a completely different route that has a lower speed limit and fewer stop lights, but it is the same distance.

If all you are driving is very short trips, you will be disappointed unless you have an Energi. The standard Hybrid really needs to get the ICE warm before you will see good mileage. With short trips, you will never get out of the warm up cycle for calculating mileage. I drive 28 miles one way to work. It has a little bit of everything, stop lights, stop and go, 60 mph areas and so on. I usually get between 55 and 60 mpg on these trips. But I'm out of the warm cycle on each trip, even in the winter. You may want to drive a trip that allows the ICE to warm up. Once it's warm, stop and turn off the car, note your mileage. Then start the car again and drive back. Note the mileage when you get back to your starting point. You will see the difference in the mileage. The trip back, the mileage will be better because of no warm up cycle. I specifically choose the FFH because after analyzing the vehicle and how it would be driven, it was the best choice. My current lifetime MPG is 53.4 with 22,500 on the clock. My fuel used is within a couple of tenths or less when I refuel. If I was driving short distances, I would have gotten an Energi. If I was driving long highway miles, it would not have been a Fusion at all. I think part of the issue folks are having with Hybrids, in general, is they never really look at how the vehicle will be used vs. the type of driving to be done. For some, it never matches up and they end up not very happy about their purchase.

Enzo never whined about anything. No need. Ferrari races because of tradition and the want to compete and win. Mauieizio Arrivabene, current Ferrari F1 Team Principle, said this about Enzo and what was important to him "For Enzo Ferrari the constructors' championship was of greater value then the driver's title." This is something the Ford will never understand. This is why Ford will never have the mystique the Ferrari has. Ford produces a car once in while that has the prominence to be recognized by the international racing community. Ferrari does it every year. Year in, year out. Ford does not have this sense of history. You sound like a Yankees fans going on about the curse of Babe Ruth against the Red Sox. :) Or a NASCAR fan, the WWE of motorsports, whining about non-US manufactures. (No offense LOL) Ferrari has most wins in F1 and more than Ford at Le Mans. You can predict total domination but just look at Honda's re-entry into F1. They can barely finish a race. Going back to Ford at Le Mans, you will notice since 69, they have not won, and not competed in the top tier as a factory sponsored team since 74, I believe. The previous Ford GT has raced some of the endurance series, it's not a factory sponsored effort. Ferrari always has a factory sponsored effort. They may not have won, but the are there every year. Year in, year out. Scuderia Ferrari will always race with factory sponsored teams. Ford racing depends on budget for factory sponsorship. So as interest wanes, factory money goes away. When Ferrari wins, the bells in the churches of Marnello ring in victory. The reason, tradition, pride and history. Does the same thing happen in Detroit when Ford wins a race? Nope.... Look what happen to Ford/Cosworth in F1. They are out and have been for a quite a few years. Why? No money invested in development. No wins in the modern era. The Ford GT will be no different. Unfortunately.

Not if I was buying it. My Fusion has a life time MPG of 53.4 and has been well taken care of. Look at the Oasis report on the 13 and check the lifetime mpg That will give you an idea of it's history.8,000 is a big chuck of money

Regen Braking Issue When Turning
Sleddog replied to acdii's topic in Brakes, Chassis, Suspension & Parking Aid
After reading this I paid a little more attention to braking while turning. I can reproduce it, but only at speeds of less then 10 mph in a turn with light pressure on the brake petal in regen mode when mechanical brakes are not active. In turn right or left turn at a speed higher then that, I'm not feeling it. This could be because of my driving technique, or lack there of. When it does happen it feels more like acceleration then the brakes being released. In front wheel drive non-hybrid cars it's easy to feel the same thing when you have the wheels turned and accelerate. This has the same feel, that feeling of more accerelation then the pressure on the go petal. I thinks it's more of a power application because of the wheel position, then a wheel postion sensor issue. The drive system seems to be appling more torque to the inside wheel in the turn over powering the regen braking. -
Had this same issue right on the leading edge passenger side were the hood ramps up to the next height toward the center. Took it to the dealer, Ford approved the hood for a re-paint. I'm always leery of these type of repairs, but they did a great job. The body shop manager said it was corrosion on the aluminum because of a bad prep job. He said they see quite a bit on the mustangs.

Had mine changed 2 months ago. I was very surprised how dirty it was. Money well spent.

I hit 53.4 lifetime this morning and passed train time also (22222.2 miles). I'm finding it's taking longer to see my lifetime average go up. As my lifetime gets closer to my average trip mileage the increases slow down. But I did get 61.2 on the way home today. I made all the lights but 1 and had a tailwind.

Not necessarily. A quick turn off the runway at the "high speed" taxiway would be the same thing. Garbage haulers (passenger and transport aircraft) do it all the time. So do some bombers depending on where they are stationed. Anything that regularly uses a drag bag, like a B-52, or an F-4, will usually use the full length of the runway before turning off. It's all about scale (size). I was impressed by the R/C pilot's ability to dip a wing to initiate a turn on climb out from a low approach. It's not something you usually do that close to the ground. I've seen a B-52 make some high performance maneuvers in the local pattern. There was a young hotshot buff pilot out of Castle AFB back in the day that was known for having the ability to make a buff stand on a wing when flying the local pattern. He also had a habit of dipping a wing after making a low approach when starting a high AOA turn. I saw him do it a few times when flying with mixed traffic at Travis and Beal. He, unfortunately, mis-judged his abilities one day when doing this and ran out of airspeed and lift. He stood it on the wing and the bird fell out if the sky. Flying stories. Unfortunately, the interesting ones sometimes involve pilot error leadig to unfortunate endings.

Ok. I was wrong. My mpg turn 53.1 lifetime Friday morning. I had the emissions recall done and I feel it has helped my mileage. My normal locations for EV+ have not been learned again. But my dealer is very close to were I work and the number of key cycles they did set there location for EV+. It should be interesting when my fusion learns my work location again. I'm hoping I can run EV+ for almost half a mile. My trips to and from work all have been over 55 mpg, with one trip home over 60. I hope, if all goes well, to hit 54 mpg lifetime by September.
-
I'm back to get my normal mileage. Got 57.3 going to work, and 59.4 coming home. I'm starting wonder if the life time will go above 53.0. I seem to be stuck at that mileage.
-
I use the cruise all the time. The ECO option is set to on. I let the car do its thing and only over ride it when I need to pass. It's worked well. My lifetime is 53 and I got 60.3 mpg on my 28 mile drive home today. I hit that number about twice a week, or so, if I make most of the lights. And hit 55 to 58 on other days now that the weather is warming into the high 70s. Looks like I revived a thread that's a month so old. Oops!

Finally! After 6 weeks of wierd weather, 30 mph headwinds going to and coming from work :twister: , 40 degree temperatures with headwinds, rain (in which the snowbirds and tourists don't know how to drive in Floirda rain :kookie:) and trip averages of less then 53 mpg, I finally hit 53 life time average... What did it was 4 days of "regular weather" and normal 56 to 60 mpg trips to and from work. :) :love_shower: :shift: :yahoo: :puppy_kiss: :woot:
