Figured I'd better report in. Was to get the car back last Fri., but was called and told they still needed some parts, so was to get it Monday. Went to pick it up, wife got in and the check engine lite came on and wouldn't go off. Mechanic came out and tried a few things, even had the shop foreman come and help. It was close to closing so we said take it back in and fix it in the morning. We thought that was smarter than trying to rush them at closing time. A little scary when the mechanic says "I've never and don't think anyone else in shop has ever replaced a hybrids transmission." Any way , got a call the next day it was some blown fuse, so picked up the car, no noise. Have driven it a couple of days and seems to be no problems will wait and see, have two big road trips coming up, will need it to function then. Again thanks for all the info and help this forum provides. Ken Gilbertson

Just went through the grinding noise situation with my 2013 fusion hybrid, just over 22,000 miles (we don't drive much), I guessed wheel bearings, the service guy wasn't sure, two different techs checked it out using "chassis ears" some kind of fancy microphones, they diagnosed drive shaft, just got off the phone, my service guy said they replaced the drive shaft and still had the noise, called Ford, and they are shipping a new transmission, hopefully won't take forever to get it fixed. Again, thanks everyone on here for all the info, I don't check back as often as I should but if I have a question I can usually find the answers here. Thanks, Ken

Well, I just tried it again, and still had to go through the forgotten password route to even log in. Once I got there nothing has changed, still missing most of my data. It says I have a Sync update available, but I don't want to mess up what I have. Sent them another less nasty but still to the point email about their fiasco. Ken

Hi all, Don't know where to put this, but I just tried to log into the Ford Owners site, and had real problems, finally did a chat with a Sync person and they said there were log in problems. Went through the change password process and got that part fixed. But, now when I log in it works sometimes and sometimes not. When I get to the site it immediately takes me to the bottom of the page before it actually loads the rest of the page. Then when I click on something like the service area, the little blue clocklike thing sits and spins and spins and spins. Other times it takes me to the site. When I finally got to the service site, it has lost all the information there. I had put some in myself to keep me up to date with some of the things my dealer did that he didn't put in. About all it shows is the cost of the service and my dealers name. I sent Ford a rather nasty email, and did their survey and told them this new site is lousy. Anyone else have a problem with the Ford Owners site? Ken PS just received an email from a Ford customer service rep saying they are indeed upgrading the site. She said they were having problems with it and had no idea when it would be fixed.

I too want to add my thanks to hybridbear, grysq, accdil and all the others that keep us all informed and are willing to do the research. I finally got a donut spare and parts thru my local autoparts salvage yard. I live in Montana and there is a whole lot of nothing or cell service in a lot of our state. I have been following this topic all along and saying I will get around to it. Well I had to go to a funeral a few weeks ago and drove through some of that nowhere and decided I better get it done. So, I now have the peace of mind knowing I can get back to civilization without spraying my tire full of gunk. Thanks everyone for all your help. Ken

My dealer did this update last week, when they finally put the thrust washers (TSB13-5-24). I was skeptical last fall when it came out as I have been getting excellent mileage (I put off doing it). We averaged over 47 mpg all last summer and fall. The mileage went down over the winter to just over 44 mpg. After following this thread I am glad they did it and will be hoping for better mileage this winter, as our winters here in MT can be cold and long. I want to thank everyone on these forums as they helped me purchase this car and have kept me up to date on things to check out. My dealer is more interested in selling pickups so it is a great help to have people I can trust to get advice from. Thanks again, Ken Gilbertson

TSB 13-5-24 TING/POP/CLICK-TYPE NOISE - FRONT HALFSHAFT
MTGilby replied to acdii's topic in Recalls, SSMs & TSBs
Ashley, I was a little grumpy with the service advisor, and he must have got motivated, they fixed it. When I picked up the car I asked if he or the mechanic heard it they said no, but they looked up on Oasis and found my car eligible so they fixed it. I guess persistence and grumpiness works. Thanks again for being willing to help. Ken -
TSB 13-5-24 TING/POP/CLICK-TYPE NOISE - FRONT HALFSHAFT
MTGilby replied to acdii's topic in Recalls, SSMs & TSBs
Hi, It's been awhile. I am trying to get my dealer to do this tsb, had it in last fall and now today. The noise is intermittent and so my service advisor claims if they (the service advisor or mechanic) cannot verify hearing the noise, they will not do the work as ford won't reimburse them without verification. Is this for real, or is my service guy giving me the run around? Ken -
I just got my letter Saturday, and am very nervous about doing anything. Our lifetime average is now 46.6 mpg, and we can average anywhere between 50 and 75 mpg on our travels across town and around. Took our car in to have the sync rebooted when the screen went black, it took them all day to do that. I am afraid of our dealers service dept. they claim to have an electric vehicle tech. but not really sure. I am going to keep monitoring these topics and see how everyone else does. I don't want to go backwards. The letter says we have until Aug. of 2014 so I think I will go through the winter first and see what the mileage does then. Thanks to everyone on here for the info, and advice. Ken

My average mpg is 46.2 and the lifetime is 45.8. I This is why we bought our FFH, as we mostly drive in town. My service people are amazed at our mileage, and I am wondering if they really understand hybrids.
-
I had my fusion hybrid se in yesterday to fix the sync, (see those posts), showed the service manager the tsb and told him my car intermittently makes the noise. He drove it and said he couldn't hear anything so just to wait for it to get worse. He also couldn't believe my fuel mileage (it's averaging after 3400 miles 44.7 mpg). I don't think my service people know much if anything about hybrids. They are more interested in selling pickups to the bakken oil boomers. I really like this car and hope it doesn't need much service, I may need to try out our Lincoln dealer for service next time.

SYNC is not working... at all.
MTGilby replied to lforlucas's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
I just posted in mytouch glitches topic and I guess it should have been here. But, long story short everything went black, took it to dealer, they had to email ford to get the fix which was disconnect sync from power, then repower and reprogram the system to get it to work. I hope this is not an ongoing situation. I ordered mine without nav, etc. to hopefully get away from too much technology, more bells and whistles more troubles. -
My sync screen went black on Wed nothing worked no radio, blue tooth etc.,called the dealer took it in Thur. am, they worked all day to get it to work. The repair info said they disconnected its power supply then repowered and had to reprogram the system to get it to work. Hope this lasts, otherwise a great car.

Just added our fusion hybrid way up here in Montana. I love it so far.

Just took my first road trip, after putting approximately 700 miles in town. Have been averaging 47-49 mpg in town, on one trip of approx. 7 miles averaged 79 mpg. The road trip was approx. 220 mi each way, and averaged 41 and 42 mpg each trip, used eco cruise and drove 70 mph most of the time. Will try the next trip to stay at 65 and see how it does. Overall I am very happy with this car, as we do 90% of our driving in town and if we get over 47 mpg that's great.
