Ok, excuse my ignorance, but what do you mean by ICE? I've seen it used several times.

Empower, Inform, Enlighten, or Engage?
GrayStrider replied to coach81's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
Started with Engage for the first month, then moved to Empower. Have been getting my very best trips with this mode. Driving out to dinner the other night, got 73.8 mpg as I was able to stay in EV a large chunk of the 15 minute or so trip - then again, it was nearly all downhill, which lead to the great mpg. Couldn't take the exact same route home to do an average of the two due to an accident we saw on the way down, and forgot to look when we got home anyway. Have gotten two trips home from work (about 30 mile drive) at 62 to 66 mpg, which included some freeway driving at 65-70 mph. Still want to see that overall mileage get above 40 mpg on a consistent basis per tank (nearly there, 39.1 mpg on last fill-up). -
LOL, I can totally see that now you mentioned it!!

Got 66.6 mpg on the trip from work to downtown - that's about 45 minutes of driving, some at freeway speeds (32.4 mile trip). Wish I'd had my camera ready to take a picture of the display! Gassed up last night. 39.1 mpg on the last tank, getting better as I get better at driving hybrid.

My 17" Michelins have helped me get several great MPG segments - 63.1 MPG, 61.1 MPG, and 53.2 MPG on three legs yesterday. The 53.2 MPG was the drive home from work, some freeway at 65 - 70 MPH. Hubby and I work at same school, so he usually drives, and he hasn't learned a few tricks that I have to keep in EV mode as much as possible. Since I tried using Empower instead of Engage mode, with me driving, we're getting better MPG on individual segments than he's ever gotten. I've done more driving on this tank than the others, so I'm very interested to see how our mileage compares to previous fill ups. Will keep you posted.

Knowing what you know now, would you still buy?

I'd do it again, but add the lane changing system to get the front parking aid. You have to learn how to drive a hybrid - I'd be getting lousy numbers if I drove it like I do my Saturn VUE. Yes, the average isn't 47 mpg, but getting 43.85 mpg round trip on a short trip from work to get some lunch yesterday beats the 17-20 I would have gotten in my Saturn. If we can get close to 40 mpg overall, I'll be happy (averaging 36.8 right now according to the car, we'll see what it is at the next refuel. -
Test drove the new Altima yesterday.....
GrayStrider replied to coach81's topic in Lounge - Off Topic Discussion
My bro has a Camry (has had it for around 2 years), his wife an Altima. He saw our FFH for the first time yesterday and was very impressed. He's a big guy, 6' 4 1/2" and probably 235-250 lbs. He was able to fit in the FFH very comfortably with headroom to spare. The Altima was purchased late summer and it's pretty tight for him to drive. He likes his Camry, but I think the Fusion made an impression for when he needs to replace the Camry. Had two very good legs while running errands today - the first at 42 MPG, the second at 46 MPG. Using the advice of many of you, I'm finding it easier and easier to get the hang of driving a hybrid - my thanks!! -
From the album: GrayStrider - Our 2013 FFH
Averaged 45.1 MPG round trip, but the trip over was my best to date! -

Poor MPG ... Should I take it in?
GrayStrider replied to Nmadole's topic in Lounge - Off Topic Discussion
Considering that our speed limit on all major roads nearby are 65 MPH, I totally agree! Wish the hybrid could stay in EV mode up to 65 instead of 62. Why does the Energi need to have 85 MPH as it's upper EV limit? Would love to have had 5 MPH from the Energi added to the hybrid. I've only been on one road that let you go that fast (and I think it actually was 80 MPH, not 85 MPH - somewhere in Utah where we were driving on a family trip this past summer). -
Fusion Hybrid: Fuel Saving Tips and Tricks
GrayStrider replied to Fusion Hybrid Guide's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
Wow, sounds like a beauty once your car arrives! Don't have the driver assist (that's the lane changing system, right?) but kinda wish now we did as I think it includes front park assist and that would be really handy - have a hard time knowing where the front end of the car is and have multiple times driven too far up in a parking spot and hit the air dam on the concrete stop thing in the space. Hoping not to crack the front end as I've heard some people have.- 66 replies

Have had our 2013 FFH with stock 17" Michelin tires since November 28. Five fill-ups, getting 36.8 mpg lifetime according to the display on the car. Had my best trip mileage today, 56.3 mpg. Having the car in Empower mode allowed me to focus on my acceleration so I could really work at keeping in EV mode. Coming home wasn't as good (33.9 mpg) partly because the battery/engine needed to warm up so I could get into EV mode, and it was more uphill driving home than on the way there.

Fusion Hybrid: Fuel Saving Tips and Tricks
GrayStrider replied to Fusion Hybrid Guide's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
Got my best trip MPG today (56.3 mpg!). Outdoor temp was 57 for the trip over to my folks' house. Had it in Empower mode so I could really concentrate on my acceleration, and although a good amount of the driving was slightly downhill, I had pretty good results. The return trip, three hours later, wasn't as good (33.9 mpg), partly because the engine/battery needed to warm up before I could get into EV mode (47 degrees) with 4.6 EV miles of the 10 mile trip.- 66 replies

Thanks for the link - ours has a build date of 6/11/12. One of the very first builds? Curious, need to research it now...

charge the high-voltage battery with an external charger?
GrayStrider replied to Kaleido's topic in Batteries & Charging
My husband was interested in the Energi model of the Fusion, but from what I read about the huge increase in price, and a side-by-side comparision of the CMAZ Hybrid vs. CMAX Energi, decided to go with the regular hybrid. The Popular Mechanics article I read basically concluded that if it were their money, they'd save the additional cost of the Energi and get the Hybrid instead - that the Energi would be great for those who don't travel more than 20 miles in one trip, but not worth the additional cost for those who drive more (like we do). -
cnsheets, I'm in the Inland Empire. Amazing how long this process took. Dropped it off around 12:30 pm on 1/2/13. After a few phone calls, and no call back to tell me how things were going, decided to go over at 5:30 pm to pick it up, and it wasn't finished yet. Service advisor said they had to get 'special permission' from Ford to give me an A4 Nav card at no cost. So, had to drop it off again today for them to finish things up - but it's finally got the update and new Nav card. Should have just driven out to Ontario where we bought it - would have had it done in one day. Did notice that MFT seems to be a bit more responsive to the touch, and I like the additional screen to see why the engine is running. Changed from Engage to Empower mode for a bit to try that out. I find Empower makes me be more concious of my acceleration as this is our first hybrid vehicle. Wish it had a front park assist on it - I have great difficulty knowing where the front of my car is when I park (too used to my Saturn VUE).

How do you know the exact build date? Ours arrived at the dealership on November 26. It was a dealer-ordered vehicle.
-
Mine's at the dealership right now to get the A4 Nav chip and update to 3.5.1 (the car had the A3 chip and v. 3.2.2 when we picked it up on November 28). Problem is, we were told the local dealership could do it when I called them and explained what I wanted to do (we purchased the car at a dealership 30+ minutes from here as the local one didn't have any more hybrids in stock) - yet they then call and tell me I need to take it to the dealership where we purchased it to get the A4 card, it will cost $269 if we get it from the local dealership. Then they called right back and said they'd call Ford and see if they can do it without cost. They haven't called back, it's been almost 1.5 hours, so I'm assuming they got the ok to do it and are doing the update. If they get this right, we'll probably go there for our regular service, as they're only about 5 miles away.

When signing up for sync my ride at the dealership after purchasing our 2013 FFH, we quickly came up with the user name GrayStrider, so that's what she's called now.

I've seen exactly two on the road - but it was a quick glance at each. One was headed towards us on surface streets (a white one) and a black one on the freeway (but we drove past it just as I saw it amongst other cards). Not sure if they were hybrids, but they were 2013 Fusions. The hybrids are selling quickly here (So Cal), though. The first two to arrive at two different local dealerships sold within a couple of days in November. Ours was also a dealer ordered, and we picked it up two days after arriving at the dealership (would have done it same day but hubby was sick).
