Send To Car App

For folks who use the Send to Car App, whether the Android version or the Apple version:

 

We already know that the Android version is a free, open-source app (available at the Play Store) that works with many automobile brands' navigation systems, in our case in conjunction with Sync Services, to download a destination from Google Maps (on your smartphone) to the Nav system.

 

The Apple version is apparently a paid app ($3.99) on the iTunes App Store and may work a little differently than the Android version to accomplish the same task; to download a destination from the Maps app on the iPhone to the Nav systems of quite a few brands of automobiles.

 

Regardless of which version you use, have you ever downloaded a destination to the Nav system while the vehicle was in motion? Can you do it repeatedly? There have been reports that the Sync Destinations App will sometimes give an error message to the effect that it cannot do it while the vehicle is in motion.

 

I have personally downloaded destinations to the Nav using the Android version of Send to Car while the vehicle was in motion. Not very many, but have done it with no error messages or the app refusing to do it. What experience have you had?

 

If you have the Apple version, do you feel the app is worth the $3.99 you paid for it? Why or why not?

 

Maybe it was a quirk that I was able to do it, but I'd like to know what others have experienced. Thanks in advance! I'm looking forward to some interesting answers!

I have done it with the Android version a few times, however, if I have the address, or at least an intersection, in my head, I usually just speak to MFT, and that usually accomplishes the task.

 

It's much easier to speak to MFT, than it is to Sync Services. All that's really required when using Send to Car with Sync is to say, "Yes," to acknowledge that you want the address downloaded to your car, but it's very difficult to get that system to recognize my voice, which has been discussed here before. I usually sit there repeating, "Yes!" several times until I end up shouting it. Sometimes it works eventually, sometimes not.

I have sent many adresses to my nav system with the Android version. I can't ever remember downloading while I was stopped. I back out of my driveway and as soon as the canera turns off, I press the voice button for services. I guess I don't need to have directions for backing out of my driveway!

 

Interesting that recently, the response from services states that I have a destination from Mapquest and not from google maps, even though I don't have Mapquest app on my phone or tablet.

 

I absolutely HATE the voice nav system in this car...

yea the send to car app i use for android and have change address on the fly with no issues, look address up on google maps which allows me to view while driving and the send to car app sends the address to mapquest which then sends it to your car as Ford uses mapquest for this feature

Just for my own satisfaction I just tried it again, cuz I know I'm not crazy! :) Hold the comments! Made a short trip to Home Depot to pick up some stuff so looked up the address on my phone and copied it into send to car. Sent the address and I was on my way (driving). Then I hit the Sync button, responded with "Services" when prompted, then Sync connected and asked me if I wanted directions to Home Depot and I said "Yes". The address was downloaded to the Nav, services disconnected upon completing the download, and I selected "Set as Dest" on the MFT Nav screen. No errors, complaints or otherwise and the Nav directed me to Home Depot just fine. Like I said, I don't know if the Apple version will do this, but if it does, it might just be worth that $3.99 if you really have a use for it. :)

Yes, mine has always said Mapquest. Kind of funny that the developer used that as a workaround.
