Sunglasses holder assembly in front of rearview mirror

Does anyone have a problem with the external frame of this assembly (which houses the sunglasses holder and the moonroof controls (if equipped) and two ceiling lights) partially peeling away from the headliner?

 

I noticed it happening last month, and it's not affecting the operation of the ceiling lights or sunglasses holder, but it's an eyesore. And it's not a good sign that such a basic component is faulty on a very new car.

 

Worse yet, I scheduled an appointment with my local dealer after they ordered a replacement part... and the dealer just called to tell me that they broke the replacement part during the installation attempt, and will have to order a new part and try again. I'll pick up my car after work and I really hope they at least managed to reinstall the broken part first - I don't want to be without the sunglass holder or ceiling lights for a whole week!

 

I wonder if I should have just put superglue on the section that was peeling away...

I haven't noticed a problem with either of our cars. Do you have a picture to document this for everyone's reference?

I just got my car back and it turns out they actually broke only one little tab, so they got most of it back together. The piece that resembles a loudspeaker grille (the portion closest to the moonroof) is the only one that needs replacement.

 

I didn't remember to snap a photo, but I got a stock photo on the internet and I circled in red the area that was peeling away from the headliner on the outer edge. In blue, I've circled the piece that the mechanic accidentally broke. I'll have to bring in my car next week for what's hopefully the final repair job apart from regular servicing.

 

The peeling-away wasn't severe - the gap created was maybe 2 millimetres wide. It probably didn't get worse because the wiring for the ceiling lights was holding the assembly in place.

Hey blame those damned Quebecois, not the entire country ;) In the English provinces, there's actually no law against English-only labeling, which means US-spec'ed products can be directly sold within Canada to Anglophone consumers without any legal issues. However, companies don't see much of a point in making bilingual products for just 1/4 of the population (Quebec), so they lump it on the entire country. Anglophones are not happy about it but no one listens to us!

 

On the flipside, our cars are calibrated for the metric system (km/h and L/100km rule!) which more than makes up for the drop in quality caused by bilingualism :)

Can't believe I didn't notice this earlier, but I just realized today that the sunglass holder assembly with the ceiling lights and moonroof controls got replaced with the assembly you'd find on 2015+ models. Now the lights are controlled by hard buttons, as is the moonroof. Huge improvement indeed! No longer do I have to worry about accidentally turning on a light when I get my sunglasses.

 

Guys, give the sunglass holder area a little yank to make it come loose and see if your dealer will fix it for you :) (aka order a replacement part that's meant for 2015+ models)

Yep, my SE Hybrid (built Dec 2012) had the touch buttons on top, and the Energis (buit Feb & Mar 2013) have the push buttons on top. But unlike hybridbear, I don't like the touch buttons just like I don't like the ones on the dash, they are too easy to activate by accident.

I don't have a problem with the sunglass holder, but I do have a problem with the sun vision holders.

 

The visors are held in place with the pieces of plastic with half a hole in each piece. The plastic snaps around the metal post on the visor to keep it from flopping around.

 

Within a week of receiving the car, the right visor plastic price cracked and the visor would not stay in place. Ford fixed it right away.

 

About a year later the same piece on the left visor just popped out from a broken tab. I found it on the driven seat one morning when leaving for work. This time the visor was not flopping around, so I am still driving with that missing plastic half-piece.

This seems like a common weak spot in cars. If you look at a lot of older cars you see that many times the plastic clips are broken. I don't think it's an expensive part if you have to pay to replace it outside of the warranty period.
