17" Black wheels

Recommended Posts

Our 2015 FFH Titanium came with 17" wheels. We like the ride quality but are looking for black wheels like we saw on a 2015 Mustang GT. Anyone know of such a wheel?

I know there are black chrome wheels, but are 18", saw them on a Fusion and they looked SHARP! I did see an S with black rims too, a Sunset one, the black wheels look really good on this car, except the silver ones, not much can help that except a paint job to a different color. :)

Look around on the web. TireRack has some black with only the lip machined. Am seriously thinking of getting a set as non-Winter rims to put the OEM tread on. Winter set will be OEM rims and probably Goodyear TripleTread or similar. Black chrome doesn't rock my world, but it's not bad at all.

I had 2 toyotas, both were silver, I cringe when I see a silver anything now.

Look at the 2016 order guide over in the manuals section. There's a wheel similar to the Mustang black wheel, but it's an 18" not 17". It comes with the terracotta pkg. You might like that one. Just sayin'....

IF I get 18" wheels, what is the mileage penalty? Also, what size tire do you get to inimize the difference in the speedo?

Yes there is but it's probably very small compared to other mileage influencing factors.

Just the fact that Ford isn't offering the 18" option anymore is an indication that it effects the overall mileage and if the customers pick mainly the 18" option they would most likely need to adjust the EPA rating.

Without getting into calculations, I'll say this: my car came with 18" wheels (appearance package) and it has 42 (comb) 44 (city) and 41 (Hwy) on the window sticker which I believe is no different than the Fusion with 17" wheels. Maybe someone else can confirm that. It can be calculated though. As far as the speedo, your dealer can "tell" the car through IDS, that it has 18" wheels instead of 17" wheels and all should be good. The tires that came on my car are Goodyear Eagle LS2 P235/45R18 94V. A lot of people on the forum like the Continental Pure Contact with eco technology tires though, so if you decide to go up in size, you might want to read through the tire discussions. Have fun!

Actually corncobs, there are 6 different 18" wheels (out of 11) in the 2016 order guide. And there are 5 (out of 10) in the 2015 OG. The same wheel I mentioned above is available on MY 15. :)

I didn't know Ford changed there mind again. So 18" wheels are an option for the FFH again. Cool!

Yeah, there's even a 19" option like the MKZ!

If you look really close at the 2016 Fusion Order Guide, the FFH still only comes with 17" wheels.

Below are the wheels shown in the 2016 order guide. The only ones that come on the FFH are the ones that specifically say the word, "Hybrid". All of those (all two of them) are only 17".

BTW, if you compare the diameters of the 17", 18", and the 19" tires that come on the Fusions, they are all approximately the same diameter. So very little adjustments would be needed for the module doing the speedometer calculations.

Sorry for the confusion. I didn't mean to imply (though I guess I did) that the '15 & '16 FFH COME WITH 18" wheels, just that they are still around and "available". If one wanted to buy some through fordparts.com or local dealer, one could. They may also be available on eBay and/or Craigslist. One must shop around to see what one can find. ☺ I actually have a full set (takeoffs) of the 5 spoke 18" 2014 Appearance Package wheels in perfect shape with lug nuts and center caps that I bought on Craigslist when I thought I was going to build a full size spare. BTW, I got all that for the price of one wheel. You just have to look around! ☺

I would almost bet that if you had a car built to order, you could get whatever wheels you wanted from the list regardless of what comes standard.

If you mean a factory order, then I don't think that is true. If it is not in the ordering guide, then you won't be able to get it even on a factory order.

I'm referring to the wheels that ARE in the ordering guide.

Sorry, I see what you mean now. But, as Hybrider indicated, you choice would be limited to one optional 17" wheel on the factory order if you don't like the standard 17" wheel.

The MPG difference is minimal, its the tires that play the most important part of the equation. Putting a good Low Rolling Resistance tire on 18" rims will give just as good MPG as OEM tires on 17" wheels. The PureContacts have done a pretty good job for me, considering I did get 47 MPG in 10* weather last week.
