engine light come on from time to time

Recommended Posts

For some reason, my 13 Fusion hybrid engine light comes on from time to time, then it will disappear by itself after maybe one day. When the light is on, I can feel the engine sounds louder than normal and it feel powerless, however, once the light is off it comes back to normal. I talked to the dealer but they said they can't do anything because normally when I bring the car to the dealer, the light will be off.

Anyone has experience the same problem as me? I am really pissed now, thanks.

You need to get the stored codes read. I'm surprised that the dealer didn't do that.

Exactly... if there were codes stored, that is.

I saw a note posted somewhere else, maybe on the C-Max forum -- if this is predictable/repeatable, take your plastic fuel nozzle insert from the trunk and open and close the spring-loaded seal for the gas filler so that it can reseal again, and see if that makes a difference. Don't know if it's related or if it will help, just saw it mentioned elsewhere and the hardest part of that is getting the nozzle from the trunk and taking the 5 seconds to do it.

Hey fusionlover,

Let me help! What the current odometer reading of your Fusion Hybrid? Send that over, along with your preferred dealer; I'll look into this.

Nikki

Ford Service CA

Hi Nikki,

I have around 22k km on the Fusion. I live in Great Toronto Area in Canada, normally I bring the car to service in "Yonge Steeles Ford Lincoln" because it is very close to my home. The car might have a " intermittent faulty fuel injector" because when the light is on, the car is clearly powerless.

Can I still bring in the car for code check even if the engine light might be gone when I drive to the dealership? I was clearly told that the light need to stay on otherwise they can't find the issue. And this problem happens on cold days, thanks Zathrus for the thread link.

I end up bought a OBD II scanner on ebay a few days ago, haven't received it yet, I thought I might have to check the code and tell the dealer what's the problem, sigh...

Thanks everyone for your help!

Thanks a lot ethermion. I didn't know the function exist, and the service guy didn't tell me either, maybe he doesn't know...

I just registered, waiting for the light to come on now, thanks again.

That is "clearly" not true in all cases; probably not even in most cases.

Sometimes they need to do something a little out of the ordinary to provide good customer service.......like keeping it overnight so they can start it cold just for instance.

A "service shop" that is unwilling to do that is incompetent in my opinion.

And since nobody else has asked, is it ONLY the one light that is on ? No other lights or messages displayed ??

Yes, only one light goes on.

Ford describes how to run a VHR here: http://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync-technology/sync/vehicle-health-and-performance/how-to-run-a-vehicle-health-report-with-sync.html

Yes, I did that and nothing happened, I even asked my son who was born in Canada to speak the command in case sync doesn't understand my English, but no response.

I find a youtube where a guy showed how to access VHR using touch screen, I tried but just to find that I don't have VHR selection at all

here is the video I checked: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXg3QA4WZV4

Thanks guys, I just found out that "*911 Assist is available in the United States and Canada only. Vehicle Health Report and Traffic, Directions and Information are available in the United States only."

What a rip off for Canadian buyers, I can understand if Traffic, Direction not available, but Vehicle Health Report... even my 8 year Chev has this, WTF...

I'm pretty sure that you have to have a phone paired to the system for that to work.......in addition possibly to the Canada problem.

Yeah... I followed all the steps correctly, just that Ford has no respect for Canadian buyers, my last Ford unless they fix this in the future..
