I have been eyeballing a new ride for my wife for some time and now this RR beauty showed up fulfilling all checkboxes on the wish list like power lift gate; MFT and 2nd row bench etc.

The FE should be a little bit better than the '06 we traded but still no comparison to my FFH ;) . The avg. MPG for this Explorer displays 18.9 not too bad.

 

Funny side note after dropping of the second key on my way home I actually managed 50.2 MPG for 12 Miles in my FFH.

 

It's going to be interesting see which car we take on our next road trip since this one also has NAV and BLIS.

Congrats, Corncobs! I'm sure it won't be long before you're comparing fuel costs with your FFH........even if you don't want to! :drop: That IS a nice color. I have to admit!

I think that CC will exceed the EPA because he is an expert FFH driver now.

Using the strengths and weaknesses of the FE to help improve mileage will produce positive results, the driveline in this SUV is much better than his last FE.

My Flex has the same running gear and I was able to average 24 mpg on my last 2,000 mile multi-elevation (sea level to 10,000') trip.

These larger vehicles can run at, or above, the speed limit at low RPM's, climb steep grades easily and are very comfortable to travel in.

 

However, I could not stop myself from looking at the left dash screen to seen how my non-existent HVB was charging while going downhill.

Alas, I am hybridized and miss those opportunities to Regen all that lost energy.

Imagine how I feel when I drive my F-150: Average MPG=13.5 ! :drop: You know, I was tempted today too. I was near my Ford dealer and I got my salesman to show me the only HyTi they had on the lot. It was that beautiful BRONZE FIRE metallic color with black leather and had everything on it except the parking assist feature which I don't really need anyway. But, with a sticker price of $37,220 and an invoice price of $34,400, I just couldn't justify trading up to a 2015 HyTi. There's just not enough difference to make it worth it. Maybe a 16 when the new Sync system is in there plus who knows what else. I did verify that the DRLs are on/off selectable on the left cluster screen as are the auto Hi-beams. Anyway, it was a nice short dream. :)

My MKT was between 21 and 23 going south, coming back though it tanked to 18 due to the cold weather. I used ACC for the entire trip which helps a lot with MPG. Check the fuelly chart while is still there. I drove a different route on the return which wound through higher elevations, so that did not help, but my kids got to see mountains in the day light.

I tried a few times but no luck I just couldn't convince her. The Flex two tone + V6 EB would have been tempting as well ;)

 

As far as me driving the Explorer goes we shall see. At least once I wanna take it on my regular commute to see what kinda mileage I can get in comparison.

 

I don't like taking her car since sometimes unexpectedly she needs to drive a friend who is really sick to a doctors appointment. Most times that includes 2 kids + ours so the Explorer is the car of choice.
