Well, Skydogz, here's an electronic curb feeler that won't make your car look like a catfish. GrySql, you might want to consider this too! And while you're there, check out the (add-on) Homelink product. That's the universal garage door opener for those of us without the moonroof option. They're not hard to install and you can find used ones on eBay for around $25. Just search on "Homelink".

I find the lack of a directional graphic for the front parking sensors to be a little irritating. When you put the car in reverse, the camera will show green/yellow/red squares indicating the direction the obstruction is in if the rear sensors also go off. However, with the front sensors, you have to look carefully to determine what caused the beeping.

 

By directional graphic I mean something like this:

 

 

Given how high tech the rest of the car is, I'm actually surprised Ford didn't include a feature like this.

 

However, most cars in the Fusion's class don't offer parking sensors at all, so I'm lucky to have them on both the front and the rear for under $30k!

 

Another thing I find irritating is that if you want a factory garage door opener you must buy the moonroof. I got my car pre-owned so I didn't exactly get to choose, but if I had bought it new, I would've ignored that option and just spliced a remote into the visor myself (or done a visor swap with a scrap car). I personally detest moonroofs - they add extra weight (which affects fuel economy), they're a vulnerable point on the roof for wear and tear (not to mention cracking), they present an opportunity for leaking, and (at least in my family) they will go untouched for as long as you own the vehicle! Honestly, f*** mandatory moonroofs. A lot of high end luxury cars even have them standard, something my dad hates on his Lexus LS. In my opinion they're the most useless feature in a car. Others probably will have different sentiments though - I know one guy who does open his moonroof on a hot day, but I wouldn't do that out of paranoia of bird droppings haha.

 

My family doesn't like moonroofs either, and ironically all our cars since 2001 (Acura TL, Acura MDX, Honda Odyssey, Lexus LS430, Lexus LS460, both Fusions I've owned) have included one. We literally have traded in cars without ever checking once whether the moonroof worked or not. On my old car, the moonroof was the source of creaking that I couldn't do anything about (not without paying a mechanic to fix a useless feature).

I had moon roofs on my past two cars. Most of my height, 6'3", is above my waist, so if I needed a haircut, my hair would brush up against the headliner. I got my 2014 MKZ-h without a moon roof as there was even less head room than the previous two MKS's. I would be miserable with my head actually rubbing up against the headliner.

And out here in southern Nevada, it is generally too hot in the summer to let any air in. About the only time I opened it is if we were taking out of town friends down the Vegas strip. It was also nice when driving through the canyon areas of Arizona.

The areas above the windows cut off a lot of the view as well, so they aren't as useful as a convertible.

Now that fall weather has come, it has become necessary to use the defogger especially at night.

 

To make the fog go away ASAP, I press the "Max defogger" button which blasts it at the highest temperature and speed.

 

In order to go back to my preferred settings (17-20C, lowest fan speed) once the fog clears, I have to press the "max defogger" button again.

 

However, sometimes I absent mindedly press the temperature control button or the regular defogger button, and what does that do? It forces me to lower everything manually from 30C, and in the few seconds that it takes to get the temperature down, the air coming out of the vents actually burns my hand!

 

I find this quite irritating... Ford should have designed it such that hitting the temperature control button or regular defogger button after a round of "max defogger" would automatically restore the previous settings. Who in their right mind would want to set the temperature to 30C when actually driving?

Where did you get that mirror and did you install it yourself or have it installed? Did the $200 include installation if you didn't do it yourself? Thanks! I had the Universal Garage Door Opener/Moonroof in my 2012 (gas) Fusion SEL and I kinda miss it.

I would have just replaced the driver visor with the Homelink unit since it draws power from the vanity mirror. The part numbers are below if you want new, but one from a salvage yard like Nordstroms would be cheaper.

UGH THE CLIMATE CONTROL!!!

 

I have an energi now, but it was the same esentially the same in the hybird. It really doesn't keep a constant temperature at all. I set it to 22c, warms up then gets super hot then cools down too much and kinda stays there.

 

The only heat source in the hybrid is the engine, but it seems like the system is not aware of what temperature air is actually coming out of the vents, tries to get up to temperature using hotter air than it should and over does it.

 

Also re-circulate turns off after 5 mins if the front defrost is on even if its not on by it self. Super annoying...

 

Also no eco heating / cooling. On the Energi it will use 5 KW while trying to heat the cabin and toasts the battery pretty quickly. Honda cars have eco (at least for the AC), wish there was an option to not be so agressive.

It is poorly designed and awkward to get to and one of MY pet peeves!

 

My other pet peeve is the forward air dam, it is just low enough to hit most of the parking curbs i pull up to just enough to scrape the bottom :(

Yeah this is my #2... What the hell, its 2015 and what's next to me is a huge gear shifer? Come on at least rubberize the arm rest or somethign to put my phone on.

 

My phone goes into the cup holder? Ugh... That far tray is so inconvenitent and not even sized right. Nissan / Honda / Toyta's seem to have this one right.

The lack of a traditional lock/unlock switch on the rear doors. It's a potential safety hazard, and often gets rear passengers confused when I drop them off.

 

Also, while my car has not started rattling (unlike my old one), the trunk now creaks every time I lift the lid which makes it feel cheap :( I hope my ESP will cover a fix.

 

And while it's not really the car's fault, the buckle for the driver's seat belt no longer snaps firmly back onto the top of the pillar when I release the belt, instead hanging limply at a lower level. Just a reminder that my car isn't so new anymore, lol.

 

Btw for those who also gripe about MFT, I emailed oemautopartsco after discovering a listing on their site offering reprogrammed Sync3 modules for $2000 USD (they said availability is "coming soon" on the site). The company replied and told me that they are working hard on it and should be ready "very soon" - I gave them my phone number to call once they figure it out. There is hope!

Agreed. The 2012 Ford Focus I owned was infested with them and they came from every corner of the car. Drove me nuts. So far my 2015 Ford Fusion was been almost rattle free except for a minor one that emanates from the front passenger seat when unoccupied. Unlike my Focus the Fusion is quiet and peaceful. Hoping it stays that way.

I suppose I was over thinking it... I imagined a drunk rear passenger pulling on the inner door handle while the car is moving, causing an adjacent car to smash it off. Less likely to happen with traditional locks where you have to pull or push on a vertical "pole" switch on the window sill.

I believe there is a TSB for this on 2014 models, so you can get it reprogrammed at a dealer. My 2013 Job 1 has rarely failed me when auto parking

I don't know about safety, but I've also had plenty of confused passengers. They've been conditioned that if the door doesn't open when the handle is pulled, it must mean the child locks are engaged, since so many other cars are like that. Having to pull the handle twice always feels odd.

Will hit 2 years ownership this May, but the car itself will turn 4 years old this August. No rattles but the trunk creaks loudly (which is quite irritating and will be brought up during my next service appointment).

Actually, you may be at a default temp - did you set the 'my temp'?
