Mkz total system failure...

Recommended Posts

That decided to happen to me when I got in it a little while ago

Cruise control, wipers, blinkers, headlights, all steering wheel controls, etc etc etc are all not working.

Cant get into the menus to do a hard reset. I dont see that being an issue tho. Fuse I could see it being possible. But its not a software issue. Maybe a dead module..

I would guess being the cluster is still working it cant be a fuse. Guess I can still check tho.

*EDIT*

Checked the fuse and its fine. Very weird fuse tho. Never seen 2 fuses in one before.

Already talked to my dealership and there going to call me when they get a loaner back. Supposed to get some in later today but people never come in when they say they are. I posted the video to lincoln owners fb page and there working right now. No answer lol

That may be a failure of the clock spring in the steering column.

Does the horn work?

Those fuses appear to be spares. Every one that I have checked had only one side in use. Pull it out flip it over and put it back in.

Horn works, Wipers also work on full high. Automatic and normal speeds dont do anything.

Ironicly I saw on a lincoln forum about this and they said flash the high beams 3 times. Bam, all is working perfect again. Sent the video to my dealership tho and they are going to look into what software updates might prevent this in the future.

My Fusion is doing the exact same thing except my headlights work. I tried flashing the high beams, but still have the same problem. Next day it all worked. Seems to have started with the recent cold weather. The problem seems to happen after the car sits overnight.

Dealer said it was the steering column control module, somehow it does not communicate properly. Parts are on order...

Speaking of high beams, I find that the auto high beams do not like cold weather. Must be some glitch in the camera. It has to "warm up" before it starts to function correctly.

Yep,, lane keep and auto highs are both in that area. I think there may be two cameras there, but I dont remember and mine is in the shop getting its butt rebuilt.

Maybe some fog/mist on the windshield inhibits those camera functions. I believe when the HVAC is in Auto, it defrosts/defogs automatically. It does in the 2010-12s.

My MKT does the same thing when its cold out, so more likely a hardware issue than anything else. Once the car warms up inside they work fine. The BD did it too. It just works erratic when its cold. It either turns them on and not go low when a car is coming, or doesn't turn them on at all. If you manually turn them on, it is supposed to dim when a car comes at you or is in front of you, some times it does, other times it wont, but only when its cold.

Isn't technology grand?
