I just came back from my first road trip with my new 2015 Fusion Hybrid.

I drove 1300 Klm through mountain roads.

Overall I'm happy with the car, except for one thing.

I specifically was looking for a very quiet car when I bought this one, and for the most part this is a quiet car. Mostly.

There is one strange noise it makes that is very frustrating. While travelling at 80 - 100 KPH (50 - 60 MPH) there is an occasional noise which sounds like something flapping in the wind. this noise seems to get worse if there is any cross wind.

This noise is only noticeable on the left side of the car, at the top left of the windshield area. The sound is not very loud, I can't hear it when the stereo is on. However, when the stereo is off, the strange noise is very distracting.

I was able to capture this sound on my iPhone. It was recorded while driving (don't tell anyone). I held the phone just above the steering wheel.

I heard this exact noise on the black FFH. We don't hear it in the Energi. I asked the dealer about it once and they did nothing to address it.

I hate when these things happen. Dealers never care about it. They always say: "We drove the car but we didn't hear anything"

I really hope you can have it resolved. Maybe you should go for a drive with them, and hoping that the noise comes up.

We heard it once going about 65mph for maybe a minute or so. We just thought something had become stuck on the car but could never find it and haven't heard it since. When it starts happening is it non-stop or does it come and go without a major slowdown?

Since its clearly heard on the dashboard.

Could it be the windshield wipers dancing on the glass?

 

Does it sound more inside the cabin or outside?

I have same issue. Starts around 60mph and intensifies the faster you drive. Very noticable driving on a windy day. Told the dealer and they couldn't hear anything, but they don't drive it everyday like I do.

There was a TSB referring to wind noise from the vertical bar dividing the front side window from the forward triangle. If yours is loose it might "flap" enough to generate that sound.

I do remember this. Mine did it, and eventually that piece did pop out enough to be noticed, after that I would know when it needed to be pushed back in as the noise would come back. I had them replaced per the TSB, no noise since.

SOLVED

 

It turned out to be a very strange thing.

 

The mechanic found some rocks in the skid plate which is at the back right corner. I guess the rocks got there when I backed into a ditch.

 

they are unable to explain why the rocks and loose skid plate in the back lower right side of the car created noises in the top front left side of the car.

Strange but I have started hearing a noise up front now when I get above 45 MPH, but since the car is in the body shop, I haven't driven it since Monday when I heard it.
