Tire Pressure Monitor Fault re used rims/snow tires

Dear Members,

 

Please excuse my ignorance. I purchased used rims and snow tires (same size as Fusion) that had been on a CTS. After a couple of days, the Tire Pressure Monitor Fauls indicator illuminated. Curiously, on a short drive this morning it was not.

 

Three of the tires are reading 30psi and one is 33psi.

 

I am wondering if there is a sensor in each tire and should I be having them reset. Is there anything else I can do before going to a tire shop.

The rims should have the Ford TPMS in each one and will need to be set to the car with the TPMS tool. You can buy your own, they arent expensive, or take it to the dealer to have them set.

 

Or take a piece of black tape and cover up the dash light and get used to pressing the OK button every time you start.

Hi, Thank you for the reply. I just wanted to clarify that the rims and tires have come from a Cadillac CTS. There was no indicator on today. Does the TPMS have to ford specific or can I just get the tool and set it?

Just had to be the same frequency, but thats as much as I know of them.

The chances of getting the CTS sensors to work on a Ford are very low. You're best bet is to get an aftermarket set or as acdii suggests, just ignore the light and remember to check the pressures often.
