ajacques717 Report post Posted October 30, 2014 I have 2012 fusion. For some reason starting last week, I have only been able to open my driver door from the outside or by pulling the lock and the handle at the same time from the inside, can anyone help me figure out me why? lolder Report post Posted October 30, 2014 The plastic inside drivers door handle has probably broken. It's a common problem. The part was $56.80 and labor $80 at a Ford dealer.
ajacques717 Report post Posted October 30, 2014 Are you sure? The door can still be opened from the inside of the lock and handle are pulled in tandem. If it were broken, it wouldn't be able to be opened at all from the inside right?
lolder Report post Posted October 31, 2014 No, I'm not sure but I never tried puling on the lock when the handle broke. The handle moved when puled but something was broken inside. You need to get inside the door panel to find out. Removing access panels is always a mystery7

I'm impressed with your ingenuity in figuring out that using the lock and handle at the same time allows you to open the door, although I'm sure that's annoying. Have you spoken with your dealer about this? What is your Fusion's current mileage, ajacques717? Rachel
hermans Report post Posted October 31, 2014 Your inside door locking/assembly mechanism is broken. They are about $35. on ebay - about $60.+ at the dealer. It takes about 20 minutes to remove the door panel and replace the part. This is very simple. This is a very common part failure with 2006-2012 Fusions. Ford never did correct the part. I had this happen twice on my 2010 Fusion.....not one of Ford's better ideas.
lolder Report post Posted November 3, 2017 The problem with 2006-12 broken door handles is epidemic. After paying $152 in 2010 and $282 in 2015 to have Ford fix driver door handles, when my front passenger handle broke, I ordered one from CarParts for $26 including shipping and replaced it in 15 minutes after watching YouTube "how to's". A Ford Mechanic can probably do it in ten. This must be a very lucrative profit center for Ford. These were the only non -warranty expenses I've had since 7/2009. I'm not against businesses making a profit but this is outrageous! In fairness, Toyota charged $350 to do a 2004 Avalon drivers door handle. In no case were the cars in the possession of the shop for more than an hour.
