Ford ESP - ExtraCare vs PremiumCare

Recommended Posts

The way I look at it is, if I'm going to place the bet that I will need the extended warranty, then I want it to be as close to a bumper-to-bumper plan as possible.

I went for the 7year/100K/$50_deductible PremiumCare plan, since I don't figure I'll drive more than 14K miles a year, even though my commute totals 55 miles each weekday. And that plan I bought was quite a bit less than the 6year/125K plan too.

HB is wise to wait, he hasn't driven one to the end of the BtB period yet, so far as soon as the tires look a little worn he gets another car. ;) :worship:

Somebody needs to explain to HB that they can put new tires on a car. You don't have to replace the entire car when the tires wear out.

LOL I USED to be that guy! I am so thrilled with my HyTi that I haven't even thought about replacing it. Now if I can keep from wrecking it like I did the Flex, I can wear out another set of tires! :)

I bought the ESP when I got the car, my dealer matched FF pricing +$50. I felt it was worth it since either way I would have had to finance the cost, and the % on the car is very low compared to my CC. I had also planned to drive this one into the dirt when I got it so getting 125K 4 year coverage made sense. I will easily hit 125K in that time. Going for a goal of 350K miles on this car before it will need to be replaced. I haven't done that since the 1979 Ford LTD Wagon. Most I have been able to get out of one is 161K before rust took over.

I'm looking at Ford ESP prices on floodfordesp.com, $50 deductible, 125,000 miles/6 years.

Thats a lot of miles. 20800 per year.

You drive that much?

Maybe add another year.

I'm running about 14500 miles per year. And expect it to decrease over time to approx. 13000. annually.

I compared the plan at Flood ESP.

Premiumcare. 6 year 75K - $100. ded. $860.

But I noticed it didn't include the lighting. An addtl. $95.

One LED tail light would pay for this coverage.

Called the FORD advert. that came in the mail. $1727. for the same thing.

But, they seemed to have more coverage in their PremiumCare. LED's are included. Rental car is included.

One final note.

If you total the car…… You loose all coverage.

Remaining policy is not transferrable to any other car. Even the same model and year.

But it can follow a sale to a new owner.

Its a crap shoot.

Haven't decided yet which is best for me.

Ya, I don't like being that guy either. I hope that we keep the Energi for at least a decade. That was my goal with the original black FFH, but when it started having so many electrical issues including the Stop Safely Now message while driving and having the car completely freak out and shut down on me while driving a couple times I was sick of all its issues. The dealer did replace the PCM but I was really soured on that car since it had spent 30 days at the dealer in 11 months.

Unfortunately, you were not alone, HB. Many FFH owners reported problems with their 2013 FFHs on the Consumer Reports annual reliability survey. For many owners (not all) it was not a good first year ownership experience. It is very encouraging that Ford seems to have quickly resolved most of these problems and that has apparently been reflected in the 2014 surveys returned by FFH owners. CR has now moved the FFH to the recommended list based on this data.

I hate to risk jinxing myself, but after 5000 miles I have so far found nothing on my 2015 FFH that needs attention from my service department. So far it is a much better experience than my 2012 Focus.

Mine goes in after work tomorrow for its last warranty run. Not much on the list other than what is on Etis, the Ambient light bug, and the cross traffic faults. Doubt they will find anything on the latter since it happens so random. All the rest of the issues I had disappeared when I replaced the tires. Amazing how much trouble they caused, Vibrations, noise, rumbling, tracking.

Mine is a Job2 build, first run of the Hybrid Titanium's, so you would expect there to be some issues, but surprisingly enough, there were very few, mostly cosmetic. Mechanically, a wiper motor has to be replaced due to a bad seal, squeaked like crazy. Rear bumper had to be repainted, installed too tight and chipped the paint. and the only other thing were the plastic parts on the drivers door popping out, the part between the two windows.

I would consider this car very reliable, and give it 4 1/2 out of 5, the cosmetic and wiper are worth 1/2 star if it didn't have them. So for the first 35000 miles, not a single drive-ability problem at all. I haven't had the MKT nor the 13 Flex long enough to give an opinion, but this is the first car I have driven 35K miles without one single issue that required a visit. All 3 previous Fusions, and the 10 Flex required visits to repair something, like wheel bearings, CEL, etc.

I am hoping I never have to use the ESP, but if I need it, its there for 125k miles.
