BoomerGer Report post Posted October 18, 2014 I raised this question for discussion in the C-Max section and think it also needs to be in this section. Has anyone equipped their Fusion with Amatuer Radio and hooked up power to the battery directly? Had any problems locating the radio in the cabin of the FFH? Or mounting the antenna where you would want it? Comments?
murphy Report post Posted October 18, 2014 It's no longer installed but I had a TR-741A installed for about a year. The antenna was a trunk lip mount three band antenna connected to a triplexer. Watch the trunk lip seals, they are plastic and don't seal like rubber would so it leaked water. The main body of the radio was bolted to the left side of the cover over the battery. The control head was in the opening at the bottom of the center stack secured with 3M mounting strips. The power was connected to the feed for the in console 12 volt power tap. I removed both sides of the console to get to it. The microphone rested in the right cup holder. The speaker was in the tray behind the control head. It is trivial to remove the rear seat cushion to get a path from the trunk to the console (two spring loaded levers at the base of the seat). Note this is an Energi with the much taller battery. FrankQC Report post Posted January 24, 2015 I have a Yaesu FTM-400DR (Fusion radio hehe...) currently installed. Antenna is drilled through the trunk with a 3/8 Maxrad mount and a dual band Larsen 19" rod. The body is installed above the 12V battery and the ctrl head at the exact same location as murphy's installation. Before the Yaesu, I had a VHF Motorola CDM1550 right below the climate controls. That was a tight fit but looked nice.
dlubin Report post Posted April 6, 2015 I'd be curious to know if anyone has had experience with HF operation in the FFH. Specifically, I'd be interested in any RFI related issues and their impact on HF operation. I've operated VHF FM from my FFH but interference is much less of an issue than for HF.
