Winter tires - downgrade from 17" to 16"

Recommended Posts

hi,

almost October, so I need to purchase snow tires for our new 2014 FFH. OEM size is 225/50/17 but I want to "downgrade" to 16" and narrower tires for winter season. I was thinking to 205/60/16 since it seems to be the closest numbers to get the minimum speedometer error (http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/tirecalc.php?tires=225-50r17-205-60r16) but maybe you have a better idea?

I'm also wondering if brake calipers will be a problem?

What about the wheels, does anybody know the bolt pattern and offset specs for this car? I may have seen 5/108 bolt pattern and 40-45 mm offset...

Last but not least: the TPMS => can I program a set of 4 new TPMS for winter tires without loosing summer tires settings? Can I do it myself (I have a OBD2 adapter I can use with my android cell)?

Thanks for your help.

Not at home now, but I bought 16" winter tires because there's a far better and less expensive selection. Didn't notice any speedo error when they were on. Once programmed, you can change wheels at will without reprogramming the TPMS.

The programming was done by the Ford dealer who guaranteed to match any price for the same tire including wheels and sensors and installation from any other company in town.

thanks for your reply. I'm planning to buy my wheels and tires online at 1010tires, they have good prices (with free mounting and free shipping) but each TPMS seems to be $60!! Do you remember if yours were that expensive?

I don't remember the price breakdown, but I'll try and find the receipt. Seems to me they were fairly pricey but I think I got an all-in quote with no breakdown. Just an all inclusive big number. I'll look today.
