LRR tires 18"

Recommended Posts

New shoes on order and go on Thursday after work. Then put together a list of things to fix and bring it in for its final B2B service before the 36K runs out, after that its $200 deductible. Ambient Lighting, wiper slaps the cowl, has a high pitched drone, like a wheel bearing going bad. Thats about all I can come up with at this time, not much considering its a first year car.

Has anyone out there run P225/55R17 tires? They have a 26.7 in. dia. vs the Original P225/50R17's 25.9 in.

Based on the speedometer offset shown on the Tire Size Calculator at discounttire.com, by changing to the larger diameter of these P225/55R17 tires, it would bring my speedometer much closer to reading correctly, since my speedometer is off by about -1 to -2 MPH according to the street sign radar speed indicators.

Maybe I should change to larger diameter tires when it's time, and I could even go wider too at the same time, such as P245/45R18 (26.7" diameter). And the Conti's do come in this size. I don't see the Conti's in the 19" size, P245/40R19.

The LRR-ness of the Conti's would offset the impact to my MPGs caused by the extra width, right?

I just bought the Continental tires and like them, so far they handle well.

The tread design has a very interesting layout, as far as snow traction I don't know.

I can comment about rain/wet traction though, yesterday we were in a severe cloudburst of rain on a busy multi-lane highway, 20' visibility and inches of water on the road in places, no problems encountered.

(We are in a drought here in CA so the rain was followed 10 miles down the road by a dust storm, crazy.)

That is a good price at Walmart. My total for the tires/shipping/taxes/disposal fee and install was about $775.

I haven't noticed any mpg differences yet. It's very hot here (between monsoons) so the A/C is always on.

New shoes on MyGirl, $854 total cost and the car is like NEW again! They probably have the pressure at the sticker as it feels a little soft, but it is quiet again, no more thumping, no more resonance, yeah it was the tires howling that went right through us at 60 MPH. MPG is right on the money, no change, and may be better at 40 PSI.

The real test will be in snow, since the reviews say they are good in snow, hoping they are right.

This is an interesting video from Pat Goss on tire rotation. He talks about the importance of getting the tires spinning in the opposite direction to prevent tire noise. If you rotate your tires at 10,000 miles, then two of your tires will not start spinning in the opposite direction until 20,000 miles. That is a long time.

Yep I saw that too, which makes me wonder if mine were rotated that way. Will have to ask when I bring it in next week for the last of the warranty covered things. Can't believe its over 35200 now in just 17 months.

So, what do you guys think of this. Drove in today, it was snowing, 32*, tires most likely at 35 PSI(feels like it), wet roads. A few short lights(Hate those). Heat was on floor and defrost, seat heaters on high, temp set to 71. No grill blockers yet, so that 32* air was blasting into the engine compartment.

Looks pretty good to me, confidence is high that this winter I might just be able to stay at or around 40MPG, provided it isnt as freezing cold with days on end in the - column.

Edit: Compare it to the 50 MPG drive the other day, same miles, I got 12.4 EV and 2.2 regen miles on that drive. Difference being the weather, it was dry and 54*.

Pretty cool that it has wear indicators for wet, dry and snow.

The Continentals PureContact's are apples to oranges compared the the GY LS2's. I really have to wonder why Ford put the Goodyears on these cars to start with ( this means all titanium trims), given how much better our cars handle with the Continentals. I'm thinking that every car magazine that tested a Titanium Fusion would have given it a much better rating if it had come with the better tire from the factory; I'm guessing that if Tire Rack is selling the LS2's for eighty something dollars that Ford was probably paying less the 60 dollars for the Goodyears.

I can't give a definitive rating on the gas mileage difference yet, given that it has been raining here most of the days that I have owned the Continentals, and we all know that heavy rain plays havoc with our gas mileage, but guessing from the few dry runs that I have had, I would say the mileage will be better than before.

Between the new tires and the new rear sway bar and front strut bar I installed, this is probably the best handling and best riding car I have ever driven, it's hard to tell that the car is actually driven by the front wheels.
