fuel fill inlet warning

Recommended Posts

Guys,I can't understand this. New car, constantly getting this error. I bring it in for service and they say they fix it. I'm sure they are just fiddling with it and then guess what???? The error comes back every 3rd fill up. I've put more miles on my brand new car with the check engine light on than off. Probably 7k of the 11k it has I've had to stare at the check engine light.

What do I have to do to get this fixed.

While it may be normal operation for this to happen by fords standard me losing my time bringing this to the dealer constantly is agrevating to no end.

How many times do I have to bring a new car in for service before it gets addressed?

Man what I would give for a gas cap right now!

Does ford expect me to drive the lifetime of my vehicle with the check engine light on?

How many times do I bring this into the dealer for them to stick their lubed up fingers in my fuel fill and send me on my way with an uncomfortable feeling.

Any advise?

The fuel fill inlet light is not common. They need to document to you what part (s) they change to fix it. The incentive behind removing the cap was to reduce warranty costs for owners bringing the car into the shop for "check engine" warnings, 70% of which were for a loose gas cap. Elevate the level, of complaint as described in the owner's manual. This is an EPA emissions defect.

You can also get Crystal involved. She is our official Ford Service rep. She can loop in your Regional Customer Service Manager to help coordinate the repair between you & the dealership.

Unless you are in the habit of overfilling it by "topping off", then there is a defect present that needs to be fixed.

The information with your owners manual should include a warranty help number.

You should be insisting that the repair orders have clearly written details.

If they do have that already, you should read the notes and not assume that they aren't doing anything.

Thanks for the advise.

i usually run the tank empty and fill it up and i'd day the average is 11.5 gals to fill it from empty

The dealer notes they have cleaned the flappers and lubed the orings.

I translate that into they stuck their finger in my gas hole and sent me on my way

I have a vague recollection that there may have been a TSB for this. If not I would suggest finding another dealer, I had this issue once and my dealer knew all about it and what would be required to do if the error did not go away on its own, which it did.
