Powertrain mount TSB for Hybrid/Energi Fusion/C-Max

Recommended Posts

Recently my 2014 Fusion Energi (with about 5,000 miles) has developed a noticeable “clunk” when accelerating from low speeds, and will “clunk” again when the brake is operated. This can be repeated over and over again, obviously something is loose or some kind of interference is occurring that causes a clunk that can be heard and felt as the drivetrain is loaded and unloaded using throttle and brake.

I took it in to the dealer yesterday, and they initially reported that it was “normal” and that the “electric brake makes all kinds of unusual noises”. I persisted that the issue was new, that my C-Max Energi with 15K miles did not have this problem and that if this were “normal” then Ford would not be selling any of these cars. I insisted that they take another look at it, and a few hours later the SM called me back to say that they “replicated the problem” and that there is a TSB for it related to some foreign object in the motor mounts. I googled it and came up with this:

· NHTSA Reference#10054343

· TSB Reference#ASI-44195

Description: FORD: POWERTRAIN/TRANSAXLE WHINE, THUMPING OR CLUNKING OR TIPPING IN OR OUT OF THROTTLE OR A TACTILE VIBRATION, WHENEVER BRAKING IS DUE TO FOREIGN OBJECT LODGED IN POWERTRAIN MOUNTS. MODEL 2013 C-MAX, 2013-2014 FUSION, MKZ.

Due to backlog of work, the dealer will not be able to look at for about a week.

In the meantime, I would really like to see what this TSB says. Does anybody have the ability to obtain this TSB without cost? I can get it through a service but there is a fee.

Anybody else experience this?

Thanks!

...Haven't had it in for service but I'm making an appointment soon.

Be sure to come back and post the results of your dealership visit, dijital. What's the current mileage on your Fusion?

In my case, the dealer replaced one motor mount but that did not fix the problem. The dealer is still thinking it is a mount issue and wants to replace the other 2. Problem is, one of the two has been on back order for the last 3 weeks, meanwhile the noise was getting worse. My car is now sitting at the dealer waiting for the back order mount to arrive, hopefully this will happen sometime next week and this fixes the problem.
