Is your chrome exhaust pipe tip still shiny?

I've been distracted these days and not paying enough attention to my FFH's laundry, it's not getting washed enough I guess.

Today, while detailing the car, I noticed my 'chrome' exhaust tip looked terrible, rusty almost.

 

I got under there and used a high quality chrome rust remover/polish and it looks much better but there really were rust pits forming.

The only really bad weather it's been in was our trip to MO and back a month ago, it got salted pretty good in a CO snow storm.

The next day I drove it thru a no-touch car wash in North Platte, NE that had an underbody spray - and again in MO.

 

I am going to have to keep an eye on that chrome tip, it's welded to the pipe.

You owners in the snow belt might want to look at yours, I'd imagine all that salt is taking it's toll.

The top is still shiny but the bottom shows wear.

With my gravel/dirt driveway, I doubt there would be any chrome left on it.

Of course it is, at 52 mpg's a tank it doesn't even get warm. ;)

I actually had a sub 50.5 mpg trip home today. It was very hot and I've got a summer cold. I left work early and blasted the a/c all the way home. I had the temperature set at 65 instead of 78. Ended up with a 50,4 mpg trip. But the tail pipe of my FFH is still shiny top and bottom.

Just went to the garage and checked, with 20k miles the top is nice and shiny and bottom is OK but starting to get slightly pitted.

Eagle One Nevr-Dull Wadding Polish or Blue Magic Chrome Polish work real well for cleaning and leaving it with a protective coating.
