Delivery delays

Hi all:

 

Just wondering if anyone else has had (or heard of) problems with having the delivery of their special order 2014 being delayed? My wife and I ordered in mid February, and were told it would be here in six weeks (early April). Then, a couple weeks later, I checked with the dealer and it was being delayed to the end of April or beginning of May. I just checked again with them, and it will be at least another month until it's delivered.

 

I'm getting concerned because my in-laws actually ordered a CMAX special from the dealer like we did, and it never got delivered to the dealer. They ended up getting one with more options and a different color because that's what they had on the lot at the time (and didn't pay for any of the upgrades). I know that we won't find another one of these laying around like they did with the CMAX, so I'm getting frustrated with the process!

 

Any insights?

My car was ordered January 21, 2013, built April 1, 2013, and arrived at the dealer April 15, 2013 which was exactly 12 weeks with 2 weeks for shipping. I am on the east coast and would hope shipping to SD is less than 2 weeks.

Everyone is still catching up from all the delays caused by the bad winter. If you read Ford's 1st quarter report, they actually took nearly a $100 million charge for freight delays and overtime due to the weather. Yes I realize that there wasn't bad winter in Hermosillo, but all the rail cars get tied up and stuck in snow and everything gets delayed everywhere.

The sales rep told me "We continue to watch for anything concrete, but that's what the latest report looks like right now", so I'm guessing this won't be the last time I go through this.

It should show where your car is in the build process. If it has already left the plant then it will have train car info so that you can track its progress across the country with the freight carrier.

So the dealer hasn't provided a VIN or expected build date? I wonder if the dealer doesn't have allocation and so the order is still sitting there waiting to be picked up for scheduling? Someone more closely associated with the allocation process can maybe answer that one, but that would be my uneducated (only write from reading about the ordering procedure and watching the order/build/delivery process play out on the forum many times) guess on why the dealer is being evasive - as if they tell you the order is stuck because they have no allocations, you'll canx your order with them and go to another dealer.

No, they provided nothing. We met with them for about an hour to (what we thought was) build and order the car, and they told us they would contact us a week from when the car would arrive to sort out financing and our trade-in. Then we heard nothing for several weeks, which was the first time I contacted them. They told me the date would be pushed back at least a couple weeks to the end of April. I contacted them yesterday because we haven't heard a word from them since then, and I was told it was delayed again by about a month, if not more.

 

I'm assuming I should have gotten more information from them? Also, it sounds to me like they haven't gotten very far (if at all) in the build process, or else we would have been told more details.

It sounds to me like they did not place a retail order for your car. Did they give you a Vehicle Order Confirmation document that you had to sign to indicate your agreement with the order?

The VOC lists what you ordered and spells out all of the options. Another document that appears to be harder to get a copy of is the D.O.R.A. (Dealer Order Receipt Acknowledgement). Did they request a down payment?

 

If they don't have a VIN for you it has not been scheduled into production.

There was something to sign when we placed the order, but I'll have to look back at the files to check exactly what it was. We gave them a deposit, which will roll into our down payment when the car arrives. I was leery of how little they were able to share about the process--but this is my first new car buying experience--but I should have known better.

 

I'm starting to wonder if at this point we should just tell them to cancel it and either: a) order a 2015, or b) go to another dealer.

Find the document that you signed. If it's a VOC or a DORA it will have the order number and the dealer number on it. With those two pieces of information Ashley (Ford Service) can determine the status of the order.

Below is the VOC from the Titanium Hybrid order I placed back in 2012, and had this in hand when I walked out of the dealership - which shows the details of my retail order and has the dealer and order number on it (in this was was F27494/K301). Did you get anything like that?

Wow....no I did not. We walked out with a printout of the all the car's options, and handwritten price information. Nothing near this. I obviously should have done more to know what I needed to walk out of there with! Where do I go from here?

If it were me, I would call the dealer and ask them to scan/email you a copy of the Vehicle Order Confirmation (VOC) or Dealer Order Receipt Acknowledgement (DORA), and if they say they don't have one then go find another dealer.
