Resetting Gas Mileage

I got my FFH in July 2013. Was at 41 MPG. This was the 2nd worst winter ever in MIchigan and last week it was at 35.9. I have it back up to 36.1. Should I leave it or reset it? I am sure there is a thread on this already but can't find it

Your lifetime is just a reference. I have reset mine twice, once just before driving off the lot, and just after the software upgrade. Because of our mild weather, ours hovers around 42 or 43 all the time, so there is no need. If i lived where you live (if I didn't kill myself LOL) I would reset just before winter and just before the mild weather starts and record the numbers in a ledger.

 

There are no hard and fast rules, but like I said, to me it is just a litmus as to how well the car is doing over a longer period so you can use the trip recorder for other purposes, which is what I do.

Like Waldo says, your decision should be based on what you want that Lifetime number to tell you. If you want it to be a true lifetime number then you wouldn't ever reset it. If you want it to be a season average then you could reset it seasonally. Or any other time you feel like it. It's up to you :)

I haven't reset mine in over 21K miles, since I drove off the lot. Its sitting at 41.6 after a high of 43.8. A 2.6 MPG over this unusually cold winter is not bad at all.

Nobody answered how you reset the lifetime mileage? I thought you had to unplug the main battery? I have not reset mine at all either. Just turned 10,000 miles last week.

I reset mine at every 10K oil change and write the previous figure in the maintenance interval section in the Owners Guide.
