Hi,

Has anyone else had leaks with their moonroofs when they go through a wash?

I've had a 2013 hybrid titanium for a bit over a week now. I've found two major concerns (along with a bunch of other questions). The first is the speaker buzz in the passenger door which I posted about elsewhere. The second is when I took my car through a wash some water leaked inside. I only randomly noticed this, but when I got home after the wash there was a splash of water a few inches long towards the middle of the back seat. It definitely couldn't have come from the door when I opened it - it must have come from the moonroof. In other places some people have claimed this is completely normal for a moonroof, others claim it should never happen. This wasn't a touchless wash, so there wasn't high pressure water.

I tried again today and while water didn't land inside the car, I ran my finger along the inside back edge of the moonroof and it was coated in water towards the passenger side. Shouldn't it seal tighter than this? This happened during the wash, before the blowers kicked on to dry the car. It does look like the rear of the glass & its seal sits higher above the roof than the front by probably a mm or two, is this something the dealer can adjust? I also used a clean rag to wipe down the seal and the roofline in that area, hoping it will seal tighter.

Thanks,

Chris

Ours doesn't leak. I've had 6 cars with moonroofs and none have ever leaked. You might want to confirm that it's really closed tightly by cycling it open and closed. Then you could try pouring a bottle of water on that part of the moonroof to see if water leaks in. Then you could bring it to the dealer to address it, armed with more knowledge about how it's leaking.

At the back of the moonroof on both sides there are holes with drip tubes that run down the rear quarter panels. Open the roof and pour and pour a glass of water in the rear channel and see if it runs out onto the pavement on both sides. Make sure you are parked on drive pavement.

I once owned a new Taurus that was partially plugged. If the water does not drain properly, take a can of compressed air and stick the spray can tube down the holes and clean them out.

These roofs are not designed to completely keep out all water. It this does not work, it's probably an alignment issue.

Hi there ChrisAshton84,

Let me see how I can get these concerns taken care of for you. Send me a PM with your name, phone number, VIN, mileage, and dealer info. I'll take a look at how I can help!

Took some video during a touchless carwash today. It didn't leak out of the drain, but there was sure a lot of water getting through the seal, even w/o high pressure.

or

Have you confirmed that it's closed?

Have you confirmed that it's closed?

Yes, I've opened and closed it several times. I'll take a photo of the roof when I get a chance - the back side sticks up a mm or two. I'm hoping if they adjust it it will have a tighter seal.
