Am I asking for too much?

I got my FFH at an OTD price below $36000. Included Moon roof, Active Park Assist, Htd/Cld seats, Htd steering wheel, Adaptive cruise, Nav, Rear Infl Seat Belts, and Driver Assist. This also included the rebate at the time $500 + $750 private cash deal available when ordered. My order sheet states retail for all that incl dest charge of $38,920.

As such, I am not willing to pay more than 36000 OTD with the following features: Titanium trim with Driver assist ($1.14k), moonroof ($995), navigation ($795) (even though I don't want it, I can't find one without it), active park assist ($695).

 

Have you considered ordering one? That way you can get it equipped exactly the way you want it. I have always viewed the wait time associated with an order a small price to pay given the likely number of years of ownership. A new car is commonly the second most expensive item we purchase during our lives (homes being the most expensive) so why settle for one that is not equipped the way you want? In addition, you can often do better on price on an order since the dealer does not carry inventory costs on an order.

 

It is also like waiting for Santa Claus to come. The anticipation is gloriously sweet torture!

truecar.com. Go there and option out what you want. Then it will list several dealers and what they will sell the car at and you can get a coupon to lock in that price. The dealer you are going to is playing hardball, walk a way.

OTD price is not very helpful because we don't know what's included in that price. Can you please post a line-by-line breakdown of the price they quoted you? Then we can help by finding areas where you can negotiate for a lower cost.

 

This is what I ask for each time - a decent salesman will reply with their best estimates that I can double-check, etc and the the final price maybe only varies by a few dollars for license/tamp tag costs but no difference on purchase price. A salesman that says it is too complicated to break down is either too dumb to know how to come up an accurate OTD price, or thinks/hopes that the prospective buyer is.

The way I do it is, I will finance it for X amount, no money down, can you do it for this price. If they can't I walk. Tax rate is flat by me, 6.25%, so its easy to figure it out. Price of car plus tax and add in $400 for the TTL and fees, and this is what I look for. I take what I can find on X-plan, and true car and come up with a baseline to work off of. So for the Flex, to get the one I want, stickers around $50K, between TrueCar and Xplan I am looking at around $47K, then there is a $3K incentive and 0% for up to 72 months, so $44K for the car plus TTL, figure at $48K total key in pocket driving home. If I want to really give them a hard time, I will low ball start at $42K to get to the 44K price, but I do feel $44K is the right price on a new one(thats with the incentives)

 

Now the fun part begins, trying to FIND one!
