How to remove the cover for the lane departure feature?

Hello all,

 

I just took delivery of a 2014 HyTi yesterday. One thing I'd like to do is hard wire my radar detector as I've done with all my past vehicles. On my HyTi there's a big black cover behind the interior rear view mirror that I think houses the lane departure electronics and the rain sensor for the wipers. Anyways, I'm sure there's a switched ignition lead in there somewhere I can tap into.

 

Anyone know how to remove the cover? I don't want to break it but my guess is to simply pry it off, but I'm just not sure, so if someone has done this please let me know.

 

On another note, this info can usually be found in the service manual. Anyone know if DVD service manuals or PDF versions are available for our cars somewhere? I have them and use them often for my 2009 Focus and 2003 Sable.

You can buy the manuals from Ford. I believe "motorcraft service", or something like that, is the name to Google to find the website.

I had to remove mine when I installed my remote start system, this piece will just snap off and back on again, it takes a little work but can be done no problem.

I use them for their SWS, Safety Warning System feature. ;)

 

I still find them useful on city streets as 45 in a 35 or 50 in a 40 happens. No worries on the highway when the limit is 70 or more.

I was just making funny. Most people who get the hybrids wind up slowing down, so speeding is never an issue, but I do see why you would want it. Does that feature even work? I have one, somewhere, that has that feature, but it never did work.

SWS works sometimes. But mostly I use a radar detector out of habit, kind of a safety blanket thing I guess. And once in a while it goes off and I realize I'm going a bit faster then I should be so it probably has saved me from getting a citation or two.

Whats funny is the two times I ever got pulled over for speeding, the detector never went off. Both times though I was given a warning( guess a clean CDL helps). Actually the second time the County Mounty just wanted to see my Flex. He really liked it.

What does SWS do?

The idea was that police cars, ambulances, fire trucks, etc., would have a K band transponder sending a coded message that a SWS enabled radar detector would interpret the signal not as a radar warning but instead would alert you via voice or otherwise that you were coming up on an emergency situation. The thought being you should probably be extra vigilant cresting a hill or turning a blind corner as there may be a wreck there blocking the road. Not many emergency vehicles use the SWS transponder, which is a shame, since I sounds like a good idea.

Considering law enforcement does not want you to even have radar detectors, chances are the SWS is something they think they dont need.
