Does tint make the car interior colder in winter?

Recommended Posts

For those of you who have/had your windows tinted and live in cold places. Did it make the car interior seem colder in winter? Will it affect MPG because of having to run the heater more?

I'm thinking of getting my car windows tinted but I love it that it gets nice and warm inside after parking it in the sun all day. No need to run the heater when heading home after work.

I doubt it will have any effect on your mileage other than improve it ever so slightly. Tinting keeps cars cooler in the summer to stop the damaging rays. In the winter it will reduce the warmth factor a little for sun getting in, but park your car facing the sun so the sun can come in through your windshield which you cannot tint. Once a car is warm the tinting will also help keep the heat as it will retain some.

Man oh man, I just WISH we had some sun to heat the inside of my car up! Have not seen the sun here in over a week.

However, back to the topic at hand, I would be willing to bet that the tint would save you more money in cooling in the summer than it would cost you heating in the winter.

Nope, my car warms a little on sunny days with the tint. Well worth it to me.

Tint makes the car LOOK cooler in any weather. :)

Funny!! IMHO, the white FFH's look fabulous when tinted. Seems funny when I see one that hasn't been. Haven't tinted ours yet (ours is Sterling Metallic Gray, which also looks nice when tinted), but am really thinking about it, even though we've had it for more than a year now.

Do it, well worth it. I am so glad I had it done on mine. It makes the Black car look AWESOME! (Queue James Bond Music).
