Remote start/climate control issue

Did you do a remote start more than twice, I think it is, within an hour? If you do, remote start is disabled for an hour. I ran into that when I got a third IA key and was trying to verify that all three worked.

I may have done it twice a month ago. It is still disabled today though.

Is the key still an admin key or has it been programmed as a MyKey?

Still the admin key unless the dealer messed with it when I took it for an oil change. I only use one key and don't play with the MyKey settings. I have to get an inspection next month so I can kill 2 birds with one stone but it sounds like they need some time with it.

I have never had remote start before and am wondering what the advantage/motivation is? Is it primarily so you can enter a car with the interior cooled down via the A/C (summer) or warmed up (winter)?

Also in winter it gets the windshield warm so the wipers are not stuck to the glass. I only use it when visiting my brother where I have to park outside. At home the car is in the garage.

Yeah that is the primary reason. Also helps to not get burned by the seats in the heat since it turns the cooled seats on.

All of this modern technology that is available on our cars is spoiling us (no offense intended). These high tech features are great when they work but can be infuriating when they don't work or when we don't fully understand how they work.

I haven't used my remote start in a while and tried it yesterday since it was really hot. The car started but it didn't turn on the climate controls like it used to. I took a look at the settings on the dashboard and mine are grayed out when to used to be available.

 

Strange how it used to be fine and all of a sudden it's all grayed out. Anyone able to do any reset without going to the dealer? I don't want this to turn into a big deal.

What options are grayed out? Is it the same as what happened to us?

All the options to pick if you want the climate controls to come on and the seats etc.

Until I got my '14 MKZ-h I never understood how much remote start was worth it. Now instead of getting into the car when it is over 100 degrees inside (southern NV) the interior is nice and cool. It took me a while to remember to remotely start the car, but now it is almost second nature.

They performed the TSB 14-096 which fixed it. I took a look and it says it doesn't apply to my car. I feel just updating the module took care of it anyway.
