I had this with the other car, but not until last night in the HyTi. Sometimes the highbeams will work, sometimes they dont. Up until lat night, they always worked, but last night they stopped, even when I manually turned them high, the auto sensor would dim them when approaching a car from behind, or if a car was coming. It stopped doing that as well. Then after a while, they started to work again, then stopped working. On the roads I drive, highbeams are a must(except in the Flex, those lights are so bright, dont need highbeams, they just light up the trees). I know there are parameters they work on, if the sky is light at dusk and dawn, they wont come on, but it was after 6 PM, and no traffic around, not even reflectors to mimic cars.

Interesting...Do auto high beams pick up street lights and not activate when driving in the city late at night? I have yet to see them activate, but we also don't drive outside the city very often so there are always street lights.

They will if the street lights are bright enough. I have mine activated all the time. The auto reaction time is far greater than mine.

It can tell if a car is in front by the taillights, determines if in the city based on light intensity, and if a car is coming and turns the highbeams off.

If you come up behind certain Dodge vehicles it turns them off way sooner because it's so bright it thinks it's a oncoming car.

Mine activate in the same area of my street every time. It's between 2 street light that are spaced a good distance apart. They will go back to low beams if it senses another car. So they seem to be working correctly.

Mine were working fine up until last Thursday. I cleaned my windshield, so next time I drive it, probably after Christmas since my wife as the next 3 days off and may need the car, I will find out if they are working properly now and it was the dirty windshield.

While not an issue, I didn't want to start a new topic, I just wanted to say I love the Auto high beams. Was on this small twisty/windy road in the middle of nowhere and it was awesome to have them turn on and off automatically when cars would come from the opposite side.

For a long time, I didn't know the Auto-highbeam feature existed on my FFH. This is because almost all the roads I drive on are well-lit so they are not activated. But about three months ago, I was on an unlit twisty beach road, and the high beams went on by themselves for the first time - I was shocked, but very pleasantly surprised! Since then, they have gone on two more times, but that is all for the duration of the one year that I have owned the FFH. I guess if I lived in a more rural area, they might work more regularly.

I live in a fairly rural area, and when I turn off a main road the auto feature is really useful. It works perfectly, and so quickly that I couldn't match the reaction time. There are times tho when I wonder if they will work, but they always do. Of course I don't understand the programming behind this feature. The sensor is very sensitive to street lights, and prevents the high beams from being used even if there is no oncoming traffic. Whenever there no lights, and no cars they always work as I would want them to.

The camera mounted by the mirror looks for tail lights and headlights and ambient light to determine if and when the Highbeams activate. Dusk and Dawn are times when it wont activate, and it will also see roadside reflectors as car lights and go low. I still have issues with mine being intermittent and then start working. Not sure yet what it relates to, maybe sensitive to the cold since it seems that after driving for a while is when they start to work, when other times they just work. They are also speed sensitive, when you slow down to stop they will go low.
