HVTB cracking noise at below 0 temp

Recommended Posts

Hi all. New to the forum. I have had my 2010 FFH (97k on the odometer) for 2 years now, so this is my third winter. This year when the temp goes to around 0F or below I get a cracking or popping sound in the back seat area. I turned the radio off to make sure it wasn't from anything to do with it or the speakers. It will usually start after 5 minutes driving and may only do it a couple of times, or quite a bit. The colder it is, the more often I hear it. The dealer wants to look at it, but I,m thinking I need to wait until we are having another cold spell, or they likely will not hear it.

Any one else ever get noise?

Thanks,

Dave

Could it be coming from the suspension?

No, I don't think so. It will do it even at a stop if the ICE is running. The sound seems like it is coming through the speakers, that's why I drove with the radio off originally.

There is a module on a rear speaker that produces the back up warning and cross traffic tones. It is independant of the radio. How do those tones sound? Are they normal?

I haven't noticed any difference in the tones of either the back up or cross traffic tones. I wan't aware the sound was coming from there.

Well -16o F today and not a sound at all. I don't know if that's good or bad. That is the first time that it was below zero and made no sounds this winter. I'm sure I'll get a few more days to see though. My wife said it's a loose screw behind the steering wheel :shift:

We're having lots of subzero days in Minnesota right now. Any sound today?

Nothing at all this whole cold snap. The coldest day was -200 F. What ever it was must have run it's course. Monday and Tuesday were the first times I didn't get to 30mpg in the mornings :gaah: I am ready for summer!

Dave,

Let me know if you notice the sound has come back, and I'll see how I can help!
