occupancy mode?

Recommended Posts

My 2002 Explorer Sport Trac Owners Guide states: "You may also change the occupancy mode to optimize sound for ALL SEATS, DRIVER SEAT or REAR SEAT". I can't remember for sure what it does to the sound as I have replaced the head unit with an aftermarket unit with Bluetooth and XM Sat. :) I do remember I left the setting on ALL SEATS for the best sound.

I found this description from a 2012 Focus Owners Guide.

Occupancy mode (if equipped): Scroll to select Occupancy mode and move right or press OK to enter. Then, scroll to select from All seats or Driver seat. Occupancy mode optimizes sound quality for the chosen seating position. Press OK to confirm your selection.

My 2013 MKZ does not have this option for the THX Certified sound system.

So it adjusts the Fade depending on where the seats have people in them? If that's true, it's pretty cool. I always worry that I am going to blast out my rear passengers, because their heads are right by the rear deck speakers when I have the volume set to where I like it for the driver seat, so I always manually adjust the fade to turn down the rear speakers.

I'm thinking it is more of an EQ function of optimization. I don't recall fade or bal being adjusted. I guess you will have to let us know after your car arrives... If equipped. :)

All it does is changes the center of the speakers so that you as the driver have the best focus on whatever you are listening to. It stays that way even if there are other people in the car, so to them whatever is playing would sound off-center. Thats all it does, nothing more, nothing less.
