Sirius Channels States "MyKey Resticted"

Recommended Posts

I have a '13 Fusion with Sirius and several channels when I tune to states that it is "MyKey Restricted". I have looked though the settings of the audio system and the vehicle system and cannot find a menu to un-Restrict channels.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers.

Did you turn one of your two keys into a "MyKey"?

Use your other master key and the restrictions should go away.

I only have one key. I bought the car used and it only came with one key.

Now what?

I guess I'll go to the dealer and try to get it sorted out.

Tell them you want a second key and that both are to be master keys. It is impossible to use the MyKey function without having two keys. Once a key has been configured as a MyKey the only way for you to change its configuration is to use a master key. It's their fault that they took a car in trade and did not get both keys for it. It also means that wherever that second key is it can still be used to operate your car.

They need to erase the key memory in the car so the key you have and the missing key no longer work.

Then they need to program the key you have into the car and give (not sell) you a second key that is also programmed into the car.

What Murphy said. You need to have at least two keys for these cars to function correctly, if you lose the one key you have, you are screwed! The car would have to be towed and new keys programmed, and that can run you several $$$. With a master key you can erase the second keys settings and make it a master too. That will remove all restrictions.

If the current key is a master key though, doing a full reset of MFT should clear the my key settings. When I first got my HyTi, the Speed Compensating Volume was locked stating my key restricted, yet neither key had My Key programming done. I did a reset through the menu, and that cleared it up.

Thanks guys. Unfortunately I didn't buy the car from a Ford dealer. Had I known all this stuff about MyKey, I would have insisted on having 2 keys before the purchase. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and pay for another key.

If the current key is the master, do I need a second key to do a reset? I'm guessing yes.

You need 2 keys to do anything with MyKey, but you dont need any keys to clear MFT settings. I know I posted somewhere on here about what I did to reset the SCV settings on mine, but haven't found it yet.

The fact that you encountered MyKey restrictions tells me it is not a master key. The key can't be converted to a Master without another Master or a trip to a Ford dealer.

You still need to get the key memory wiped so the missing key can no longer operate the car.

I was messing with the settings on my Ford Fusion Hybrid and accidentally turned on the "MyKey" feature. This became a problem because many of the Sirius radio programs that I like to listen to, while driving, since displayed "MyKey Restricted". After a bit of Googling I discovered that MyKey restrictions are a feature for enforcing "better driving habits" on a member of the family, presumably one of youthful years. In terms of my favorite radio programs, mainly most of the Comedy channels, one aspect of this feature intends to save young years from a barrage of foul language. Being of senior years, my ears are more "seasoned", thus this feature is of no use to me.

How did I "fix" it? I followed the instructions at the following Ford site:

https://owner.ford.com/how-tos/vehicle-features/locks-and-security/mykey.html

Basically, in my case, what I did was start the car using the Master (or "Admin") key (usually two keys are issued to a new Ford car buyer [with a system like this] -- one key is the master or admin key and the other(s) can be restricted using the MyKey features). Turn on the car using the master key, then, using the controls on the steering wheel (left side), navigate to "Settings", then to "MyKey". Then, in the MyKey menu, select "Clear MyKey", then hold down the "OK" button until the MyKey finishes clearing. If you're unable to achieve this, perhaps it's because you're not using a master key -- try the other key(s). If MyKey is a feature you actually use, then you may need to use a more finessed approach (this being the "crowbar approach").
