Question about receiving text messages and making calls with my cellphone in the car connected to Bluetooth. Currently, I have Bluetooth notifications set to on with sync and I am still not receiving messages/notifications on the screen, should I be??? Any suggestions on how to fix that?

 

Regarding the phone calls, to the right of the speedometer if I have phone selected showing who I am currently talking to it is showing unknown caller on 2 people so far in my phone book. 1 has a image in their name which I figured is why that is happening, but the one today was just listed as "Jane Doe" (name changed respectively). Any idea why that would show up as caller unknown near the speedometer, but perfectly fine in the center screen?

What kind of phone do you have? The SYNC system has some compatibility issues with the iPhone - I was originally told it was because SYNC is a Microsoft product, but someone on this forum said that is not correct. But either way, you cannot send/receive/read text messages from an iPhone via SYNC.

As for the names/photos, I'm stumped. I don't use photos on my phone, and everyone from my Contacts list has always shown up with their name.

I have an iPhone, and my car read a text message to me a few days ago. It was quite a surprise. That never happened before the upgrade, and I still can't send them, but apparently it will now read them to me. I don't know about the original post, though. My car has always had the correct information in the display for callers.

I agree with Elle the text messages work just fine as long you have emabled the correct settings like in the notification center of the iPhone and text to speech on MFT.

I'm not sure about the picture but it usually displays the name correctly. On the other hand I also saw the unknown display after my wife called me back while the phone screen right hand display was still active.

 

Not everything is perfect and so so far I'm pretty pleased with the functionality. Adding Apps would be more important than sending text messages.

Seems that for the first min or so it says unknown caller, but it figures it out after a bit... And iphone yes sorry, have it all set up right, but nothing.. Not to big of a deal just wondering.

Unknown is just an issue with the latest sync update. We all have that going on with the right screen.

I just discovered the iPhone text message option this past week. The Prius got an Entune update which added the option for the Prius to notify you on screen when you receive a text. As far as I know the Prius can't read you the message. With learning how to adjust the settings for that I also discovered that I could do the same thing with the FFH and have since turned it on and had it read me text messages. Very cool!

 

P.S. I have an iPhone 5S

I just discovered the iPhone text message option this past week. The Prius got an Entune update which added the option for the Prius to notify you on screen when you receive a text. Thank you for the reply. My phone HTC One with AT&T is on the list but the Firmware/OS on the list is out of date. My current Firmware is 3.17.502.3. I can receive text messages on a hit or miss basis, so it works sometimes but doesn't appear to work all the time. I did delete the phone from SYNC and then paired it again and that helped but I was thinking that I might have a setting that may be incorrect.

If you've had the text messages come through in the past, it sounds like your phone settings are correct. One thing that can help with the Bluetooth connectivity is a soft reset to your phone. Since you're unable to remove the battery on that phone, the soft reset is done by holding the POWER button for 10 seconds. When the phone powers back up, it should automatically connect to MyFord Touch.

I never have a problem with Bluetooth connectivity in of itself. The phone and music streaming functions usually work perfectly. It's the text message sending and notification feature that is hit or miss. I went through the support link that you included above and nothing worked until tip #3 where I had to un-pair my phone from SYNC and then delete SYNC from my phone. After I did that, and then re-paired my phone with SYNC, the text message sending and notification feature started working again. I did this same trick awhile back the last time the text message notification and read feature quit working and it started working again then also.................for awhile. The problem is that it will work for some time and then all of a sudden the text messaging feature quits working again. It gets somewhat frustrating having to delete the pairing of the phone and then pairing it again and having to wait while it downloads all my contact information.

I shut off my phone each night while I charge it back up and turn it on each morning which I think is a soft reset daily. Like I mentioned earlier the BT phone and music streaming functions rarely ever fail to connect automatically. It's just the text message notification, reading and sending function that works for awhile and then sometimes fails to work. This last time that the text messaging failed, I did a soft reset and it didn't make any difference. It took a delete and un-pair the phone from SYNC and then add the phone and re-pair it again to get text messaging to functioning again. Oh well, at least now I know what it takes to get it working again. :)

I haven't received the specific details yet. I can only verify that the AppLink update being rolled out later this year is not going to be available for MyFord/MyLincoln Touch systems.

Hi everyone,

 

When I receive a notice on the right hand 4.2" dash screen that I have received a new text, I can press the steering wheel button to listen to that text message being read to me. This works for me no problem. Another option that appears on that screen is "dial" but that does nothing when I select and choose that option on the 4.2" screen.

 

Does anyone get this function to actually dial the person who sent you the text? It would be great to learn how to get this function to work.

Yes I do have the same problem but I believe it depends on how the text is received.

When my wife sents a text it's send as iMessage and usually linked to an email address.

 

I could be wrong but it's not a really big deal for me since I can tell Samantha ;) to call my wife.

 

Maybe Kim knows or can find out.
