One thing you won't have to worry about in Toronto though and that's hitting a deer. In Michigan, if you haven't hit one, you know at least two people who have and they will really mess up a car something awful.

You're not alone... wife hit one a few years ago and I missed one by about 8 feet the other night and I luckily fit between #1 and #2 in a pack of 4 crossing the road. When we were getting her escape fixed from the deer hit, body shop said that 75% of their work in October/November are all deer vs car.

over 4K on the Flex this year in June! Stupid dumb animal, had she kept going she would still(maybe) be alive and my Flex would still be perfect. But NO stupid dumb thing turned around and ran right back from the direction she came from and wound up getting smacked and run over. POP!

 

I hate deer. I would shoot them just for fun, but that isn't me.

Some Maine drivers were pretty bad this morning. We had our first snowfall of the year. It was barely more than a dusting. It was pretty obvious that the roads weren't ideal and most drivers were taking it good and slow, but there were still enough idiots to keep police and tow trucks plenty busy. I got on the I-95 Turnpike at 7:00am this morning and past three left lane accidents within maybe fifteen miles. It was obvious they were all trying to speed past "slow" moving traffic, but anyone with a half ounce of sense could also see the left lane was in the worst condition. By the time I got off the turnpike, I had past five accidents going in my direction four in the left lane and one pickup truck in the ditch on the right side. The last accident the driver smacked the center guardrail pretty good and got spun around. It tore up his entire front end.

 

Every year we go through this, first couple of snowfalls of the winter takes a toll on everyone who forgot how to drive in snow. I always here "come on... this is Maine we're supposed to know how to drive in snow." But you know what, when I lived in Alaska it was the same thing every year. The first week of winter always destroyed a lot of cars.

Same here in Austria yesterday. You would think they know how to drive in winter but not really even with winter tires which are mandatory since October.

Yeah, I was warned by a Livingston County cop that caught me doing 88 on the Michigan backroads back when I was still a co-op student in my old '98 Cavalier. He was like "do you KNOW what happens if you hit a deer at 88?" "No," "You die." "Oh." So yeah...I'm a lot more careful down driving through the back roads and even parts of I-75 and I've had deer walk out onto the road, but I wasn't going fast (like 40-ish) cuz I saw SOMETHING off the side of the road, so he ran back to where he came from and I just gradually slowed down to like 20 or so.

 

But yeah, I've seen the crazy damage that deers can cause. Not fun. And I've also seen people who would reinforce the front of their cars and/or trucks so yeahhh...

Yeah, they're definitely not the brightest. Although, I've never really learned what to do if a deer IS out on the road (to be honest - cuz I did my driver's ed in Windsor) but I do like that I can at least fully turn OFF my headlights in the Fusion now, so flashing it on and off seems to help make them move/get out of the way.

 

But you would think that they would eventually learn that roads = bad - but nope!

It's interesting reading all these stories about how bad drivers seem to be quite universal. I've seen pictures and heard rumors about how bad drivers are in China and in India. Course, when this is what you deal with:

To get things back on topic....

 

Did everyone who was waiting for their replacement FFH or waiting for their FFH to get out of the body shop due to various accidents get their FFH?

I've gone full circle on this topic and there's little else I can contribute to my experience, but that's not to suggest bad things don't happen to good people. I will be tracking this thread and commiserating with those who have the misfortune of FFH related trauma. Update: The ruby red is now fixed, just a shade over $15K. I got offered 25700 as a trade-in and I'm taking it. New one ordered. White platinum, Brick Red leather, nav, cooled seats. 8-10 weeks...

Car returned, $7500 in repairs, diminished value going through subrogation (offered $18k cash from carmax to straight up sell it and no one else would even make an offer on it). Will investigate getting an MKZ after I return from holiday.
