90% of the time the system is off. I usually have the windows down and the sunroof at vent. It has been an unusually cool summer though, which accounts for a lot of it, Only on hot muggy days have I run the AC.

After the Mod, use this filter (04'-'06 Honda Accord filter):

Found the exact filter at Farm & Fleet tonight. This should help make a difference in the car.

Farm & Fleet is my favorite, though they are starting to stock more household items and less hardware at our local store. I guess they feel they need to compete with Wal-Mart, which built a store across the street.

I hadn't heard of Farm & Fleet before. We have Fleet Farm here in Minnesota. They're like Home Depot, Menard's or Lowes. Is Farm & Fleet like that too?

Blain's F&F was more oriented towards farming, but over the past few years the farm section has dwindled. It is moved towards the center of the store and reduced to just a few aisles. I used to be able to find just about any part for repairing implements, but they don't stock nearly as much as they used to. Their tool department has also downsized, not many woodworking tools left(same with Sears). I rarely shop there now unless I know they have something I need. I did find something there that I was looking for years ago but could not find, and thats a PTO extension for my tiller. I was surprised to find it, and quite glad i did since the only ones I found were on line and cost $20 to ship due to weight.

 

Since I no longer do my own oil changes, I dont know how their pricing is on Mobil 1, but in the past it was always the best deal there.

They still stock a lot of older tractor ignition parts and items that I fabricate for my TR7. They used to stock a lot of steel bar, plate, rods, angle iron and the like that made it a welder's project dream, but they cut back on a lot of that stuff too.

I designed a Poo Shaker for cleaning stalls, but since I couldn't get the parts locally I haven't gone anywhere with it other than a drawing. I is a simple device two sheets of expanded metal one fixed, one moving back and forth so it sifts out the good stuff and leaves the lumps on top that move down and top and fall into the bucket. I needed a gear set, chain drive, and some links, but they no longer carried them, should have got them when they had them too.

When I had horses I made the kids do that, they were the ones that wanted the darned hay converters.

I have a pair of those now, they do a pretty good job and I dont have to plug them in.

My wife watched the 2nd video on youtube and just about changed the filter herself, for you diy ers this is not hard at all to change. but I do recommend doing this on warm days so the plastic is not as brittle.

I just changed the cabin air filter in my wife's 2013 FFH. Lots of nastiness in there. Mice were making a home. Absolutely filthy.

 

2nd change, and yes, I did snap off those clips. One the first time, the other, this time. Doesn't matter. The screws hold it together.

 

What a pain in the butt, but hopefully worth it. Still love the car.

I had my dealer replace the cabin air filter at the 40K mile service. They charged me $31.95 for parts and $72.50 for labor. From what I've read here about the difficulty (and I'm far from being a mechanic), I think that's fair.

Ouch. Over $100 for a cabin air filter change - in my book, that reinforces the whole 'stealer' meme.

Got an OEM filter on flea-bay or $11. The task of changing it out was a bit of contortion - particularly for the lower screws, but not that difficult - just far fussier than it needs to be. On our brand 'T' vehicles, the cabin air filter is a 5 minute no-tool affair, with the most difficult aspect being dealing with the detritus in the glove box. The Fusion difficulty is in dealing with small screws in places difficult to see - and avoiding breaking stuff that is going to become more brittle as the car gets older. Around FL, I do all the cabin air filters after the pollen season - the oak pollen pods inevitably cover the filter and smell funky with high humidity of summers.

 

The task is not as bad as it was on a gen 2 brand H van that involved cutting a brace (for the first change) to remove a metal bracket with 4 hard-to-reach screws to get at the filter - but still more of a pain than it ought to be. To me, routine service tasks ought to be a design priority - and should not require 3/4 hour of labor.

I agree it's a poor design for servicing. But given its design, I consider the dealer's charges reasonable (we have high shop labor rates here).

It is a very poor design. And, now I have to go back in because apparently something fell into the fan and is making undesirable clicking noise.

 

No idea how I am going to sort that out. Not much room to work in there.

I agree with everyone else. Really bad design. I can't believe you have to remove parts of the dashboard to replace a cabin filter.

Most cars I've seen, you drop the glove compartment and you can change it.

This is ridiculous.
