Setting off the alarm

Has anyone set off the alarm in their 2013 FFH? I'm curious about what will and won't set it off. On pg 61 in the OM it says that the alarm will sound if the hood, trunk or any door is opened not using a key, fob or code on the keypad. This means that should you leave your windows down with the car locked the alarm would sound if someone reached in an opened the door. It doesn't appear that the alarm will sound if someone breaks a window. Our Saabs all had glass breakage sensors that would make the alarm sound if someone broke a window or even if they hit the window too hard.

 

It's good that the alarm is triggered by opening the hood too so someone couldn't open the hood and disconnect the battery to disable the alarm to steal the car. Another note about Saabs is that their alarms were also connected to the hood. AND...the Saab alarm system didn't run off the car battery but it had its own battery system so if a thief thought they could disconnect the battery to disable the alarm they were mistaken.

I remote started mine while my girlfriend was in the car. She opened the door from the inside and the alarm went off. Not sure about any of the other situations though.

My alarm went off when I wiped some dust off of the black plastic part under the trunk while the doors were locked. I can't guarantee that I didn't just hit the alarm button on my key, but that would have been the only time I've ever done it so far, so that'd be a big coincidence.

My question is kind of similar so let's wake up a Zombie................

 

My dealer got my car from another dealer about 60 miles away.

My salesman said that the other dealer installed an "optional" Security Alarm....which did more than the standard one, including a "proximity" feature if the car was bumped.

He went on to say that the only way to turn it off once triggered was to use the physical key in the door.

I find that last part hard to believe.......but have been reluctant to try a test.

He also has not been able to come up with any documentation yet about this added alarm.

 

I'm beginning to smell a rat.

Anybody else have this "extra" alarm installed ?

it supposedly is a Ford product........or a Ford approved aftermarket product.

Apparently this extra alarm isn't familiar to anybody here.

 

I'm getting a worse feeling as time goes along.

 

They have had it in the shop now for 3 days and still can't seem to come up with a name for the alarm.

They now THINK that it should have a separate FOB to turn it on and off......but can't seem to find one.

AND the remote start doesn't work. They think the two might be related.

 

A few more days and I'll be talking to the dealership owner.......or Ford.

An aftermarket alarm would normally have it's own fob. Maybe the other dealer failed to ship it with the car.

I just bet that the two dealers are playing "Did TO......Did NOT" about who is responsible for the missing FOB.

 

If it were a really complicated problem with the electronics that would be one thing but these simple administrative things that go on seemingly forever really piss me off........because there is no excuse for it.
