elle Report post Posted July 7, 2013 (edited) I've been off work for a couple of weeks and, yes, we have a sprinkler system that usually runs while I'm at work, and it's hit my car a few times. The water here is very hard and water spots are a big problem. Took it to the car wash today and apparently it's been too long because they didn't come off (usually if I take it within a day or two it's not a problem). So what is the best way to get rid of these? I've read that vinegar or a paste of vinegar and baking soda will work, but I'm sort of afraid to do that. Any thoughts? GrySql Report post Posted July 7, 2013 (edited) Didn't you just have it detailed, bummer.Hard water spots are a real problem if they have etched the paint. You're right, a 1:1 white vinegar and distilled water solution sprayed on the areas can take the calcium off, then re-wash the car. The vinegar strips the wax off too, so that area needs re-waxing.If the paint is etched/damaged you have some work to do to get it back in shape. Claying and polishing may take care of it, depending on how bad things are. Websites like 'The Chemical Guys' have tutorials and products for this.Maybe the Detailer service you used before can help. elle Report post Posted July 7, 2013 (edited) Thanks. I haven't had it detailed, but I do have it cleaned and waxed frequently. They did offer to take care of it for me, but when I've done it there before it's been expensive. I have been planning to clay it soon, but was told that the clay bar might not take care of the problem. Do you think it will? GrySql Report post Posted July 7, 2013 Here's what the Meguiar's Forum says... and the Most Detailers will use an orbital buffer with a type of polish/cleaner, then re-wax.
acdii Report post Posted July 8, 2013 I have the same problem, and they are partially hidden after using Meguiars detailing spray, but I havent washed the car yet either to see if they will wash off.

Everything else I tried was only a partial solution. 2 LadyFFHT13 and corncobs reacted to this
