Disable Active Noise Cancellation?

I installed an aftermarket subwoofer and amplifier on my 2013 FFH and ran into problems with the active noise cancellation (ANC). Problem is, that whenever the ANC kicks (1000-1500 RPM), the amplifier amplifies the ANC frequency and I get a terribly loud vibration from my subs. I had a small work around by turning down the gain on the amplifier but the feedback still occurs, just not as often and not as loud.

 

I read on forums with 2013 accords, escalades, and other cars that have ANC, and their workaround to disable the ANC is to unplug the mics in the headliner. Problem is that I'm not sure if the mics for the ANC are also the mics for the bluetooth calling and voice commands. The Honda ANCs can be disabled through going into diagnostic mode in the head unit. I tried this with my MyFordTouch and I couldnt find such an option under diagnostic mode.

 

Anyone know of any way to disable the ANC without losing the mic for bluetooth calling/voice commands?

Yup, I confirmed that. Pulled fuse 33 but then the sound system won't turn on at all. Also got to hear how the car sounds without any ANC, wasn't bad, just sounded like driving a real car.

I just copied and pasted from my post this morning...wanted to be sure you saw this...hope it helps.

 

Disconnected the ANC Microphones this morning to eliminate the problem of the sub firing when the ICE came on. It only took about 15 minutes to disconnect all three microphones. Here are the steps:

 

 

1. Pop the cover for the screws on the handles over the passenger and driver door.

 

2. Remove the handles (2 Screws).

 

* My Fusion has a sunroof, so these next steps may be a little different for non sunroof models. I could pull the headliner down where the sunroof opens and do the work.

 

3. Pull down the head liner (NOT THE "FABRIC/CARD BOARD" LOOKING PART! That part is attached to another piece that pulls down very easily then snaps back in place when finished.

 

4. The plug is about 3 to 5 inches from the microphone. Unclip the lock and unplug.

 

5. Pop the headliner back in place and reattach the handles.

 

6. In the rear, pull the headliner down the same way from the back window.

 

7. Reach in and unplug that microphone.

 

8. Pop the headliner back in place.

 

 

No more "rumbles" when the ICE kicks in.

 

 

This was a lot easier than I thought it would be.

BTW...Bluetooth and Voice Commands all work.

Let me understand this right, Ford puts a noise cancellation system that actually makes the engine noise rumble more in side the vehicle?

 

And we have to disconnect the phasing microphones so the engine noise is actually quieter?

Nope, the Fusion system is tuned to make the car quieter inside, not louder. Disconnect it and it will be louder.

There are times when the outside sound and ANC are out of phase, and you get this deep rumble for a brief moment. Sometimes it will happen with the ICE, but mostly its an outside sound like a truck or bike that is fast and loud, so the system can't produce the negative sound wave in time, so all you get is a deep boom.

Hi All,

 

I know IWear7 has outlined above how to disconnect the overhead mics to disable Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) in most Ford Fusions, but I am checking to see if anyone has found an alternative way to do so, like following the mic cables back to a central module from which they can be disconnected, or having a dealer disable ANC through reprogramming / using FORScan or a similar programming tool set.

I am reluctant to disconnect the mics in the headliner, for fear of damaging the mics / headliner (aesthetically or functionally). Any updates on this would be greatly appreciated.

So I’ve managed to enable line level output and disable the ANC all through Forscan. Then I went and tried to do both at the same time as I wanted the bass rolloff to be disabled, but I have to hold the seek next track button and eject to boot into diagnostics for the line level output.
