The FFH is an awesome car but it can't swim!

Well let me say first the Lady and I are OK but what a ride this morning.

 

We had 6+ inches of rain in some areas of the Chicago NW suburbs and it was already interesting getting out of my neighborhood.

Pretty much every intersection was flooded with a few inches of water not a big deal.

I finally got to a major road (Rt.14) which was flooded in Cary, I watched people going thru the intersection for a while.

Some of them had the water splashing over the hood and truck created waves 6 inches high driving thru.

So I decided not to go, went back found some local streets that were drivable until this one intersection.

 

It didn't look that bad just like all the others but let me tell you it got deep, too deep unfortunately!

Now I'm not quite sure anymore what happened but all of a sudden an alarm message pops up "Please stop the car safely now!"

The car was still moving and to not be stuck in the water I kept going for a few more yards to get out of the water. I acknowledged the message and I believe the ICE did shut down and the car was going in EV only.

 

I actually believe that there is an emergency program that allows you to safely pull of the road under EV power and stop.

I don't recommend testing this out and I don't wanna do this again ever!

 

So I stopped shut her down waited a few seconds turned her back on and the ICE came back to life.

 

Next time I will just turn around a go back home even if I can't really work that day, it's not worth to damage any kinda car driving thru standing water where you can't see how deep it is.

There were quite a few cars in that area that got stranded in water midway up the doors, you got durn lucky is all I can say. Years ago I when I had the F350, water on the roads was nothing for me, I could drive through 3 foot deep water in that thing, as long as I didnt make a bow wave, and when 176 was flooded before they repaired it, I would fly through that and make some huge waves, but now with either car, nope, if I cant see the curbs, I dont go through it.

Yes I was really lucky no doubt about that.

Strange thing I did see the curbs on the edges of the intersection but somehow this thing was shaped like a bowl.

 

Like I said I'm not doing that again ever!

nah, they seal it up pretty good, last thing they want is to have to replace corroded cables or other electrical items.

Whoa! So glad to hear that you were able to continue driving. I bet it wouldn't be good to get that big electrical conduit wet for long.

On the way home last night, one of the roads was still overflowing with water, I stopped and said, I aint going across that, just as a minivan went around us and did exactly that, and nearly wound up in the ditch from the force of the water. If it did though, they wouldnt have far to go, they happen to live there.

 

I didn't even think of it, but I should have taken a photo of it, it was 100' or so long and there was white water on the receiving end.

No I didn't but I would believe that some people might get the idea it's possible.

corncobs, glad you and your Fusion are both alright! When I lived in Houston in the 90's, we had floods like these all the time. I was driving a Chrysler LeBaron Convertible at the time (WORST car i ever owned!), and there was a flooded intersection that looked shalow. Once I started driving through it, the water actually started leaking in through the door seals. Once I got through it, I knew I'd never do that again! Fortunately, there wasn't much damage, and I learned a lesson, that's for sure!

And its raining AGAIN! Second time this year that water is seeping up from under the slab. At least this time all the pumps are working, so I dont have 2" of standing water. But the workshop area still has some water coming in from between the wall and slab, thankfully the hydrostatic pressure isnt there like it was last time since I have a hole in the pit for the water to escape from now. Still very annoying though since I have to walk through an inch of water where there is no sump, and happens to be the lowest part of the floor right under the stairs leading to the outside entrance. My workshop is off that hallway.

 

that and i have a headache from sniffing too much dope last night. I really should put a vent hood in for when I work on painting and sealing my planes.

How's the flooding in Illinois now? Minnesota got some hard storms while we were gone. Don't know if you've seen the flooding in southern Alberta on the news but we were there the day BEFORE the flooding started

Nothing about Alberta on the news but here the rivers are still under flood warning. The Fox River seems really high but acdii works right at the river so he can give eyewitness feedback.

Everything else is back "normal" but it's still raining in some areas on top of an already soaked ground.

 

We had some decent weather in CL so far without rain and we are only 30 miles east of acdii. I actually took my sons afternoon nap as chance to give the lady a bath after getting her dirty driving thru the flood water and apply another coat of zanio Z5 + Z2 now she shines again and with the Z2 more than before.

 

 

I love this stuff thanks acdii for being such a spokesman for Zaino. ;-)
