Who doesn't have a private garage at home to park the car?

Just curious...

 

I will be receiving my FFH soon and it will have to sleep outside. I have a townhouse with assigned parking but not garage.

It will require some extra work to keep the car clean and shiny. I have a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta and still looks excellent, so that shouldn't be a problem though,

but of course, nothing compared to have it kept in a garage.

 

On the other hand, this is really a nice good looking car and it will attract some attention. My neighborhood is decent, but you cannot help

to worry a little!

Most of my neighbors use their two car garage for storage and park their cars in their driveway.

Carport. No garage. But, I have an F-150 that resides in it. The FFH will be a daily driver, therefore parked outside. The F-150 only gets driven on the weekends. Thus it's parked under cover.

How wide are the parking spaces? My concern would be door dings. We park in an underground garage at our apartment. The spaces are nice and wide. We can usually open our doors all the way without touching our neighbors' cars, assuming that everyone parks centered in their space.

Heres my car port. I still need to cut the top panels to finish the back wall. I may get the front enclosure for it with a roll up door.

I live in a condo with open parking. Luckily there's a surplus of parking spots and I can generally have half of the back row of spots to myself. I get annoyed when people park beside me when there are wide open areas of spots for them to park in without being directly next to anyone. haha. It is an extra challenge to keep the car clean, especially considering there's no dedicated area where I can hand wash it myself. Luckily a lot of the bay-style car washes in this area don't care if you bring a bucket along, so I usually do that.

I used to have to park in the driveway, but then I cleared out the garage and got vehicles that would actually fit lengthwise in the garage.

 

No regular sized pickups will fit in the garages in my neighborhood. Needless to say, in Texas, that leaves alot of vehicles in the driveway and garage is now synonymous with storage.

 

If parking is prescribed in your neighborhood/complex and you get a ding on the side, it'll be pretty obvious who did it.

Where in VA are you? Last time I tried washing my car in one of those bay-style places, they didn't let me to use a bucket.

I'm in Blacksburg. Most of the bay-style washes aren't monitored or are not very populated so they don't really care. Since you're in NoVa I wouldn't be surprised at the difference. We're in basically different worlds!

 

We have a lot in common though, my previous car was a 2006 VW Jetta.

When we go to Target and other stores we'll always park far away so that no one will park next to us. I agree that it's very annoying to come back out and find that someone else parked far away but right next to us when there was a wide variety of closer spots available.

They probably figure that you are extremely unlikely to ding their door so one of their doors is protected.

Why would someone with a beater be worried about door dings? Thats usually who parks next to me.

That's what my wife says. That's why she'll sometimes look for other people with nice cars who park far away and park next to them, but while still allowing lots of space between their car and ours. I don't mind when ppl do that. What I object to is when the parking lot is empty and someone pulls up and parks really close to us where we can hardly open our doors and they can hardly open theirs. I had someone do that to me at Target the other day and it was really annoying. I had parked centered in my space way out in the middle of nowhere and this BMW M5 parks the opposite direction really close on my driver's side. This means that I could barely open my door to get in the car and they could barely open their door to get out because they were over the white line into my space.
