I've been so busy reading all of the EU regulations (it's like 130-something pages for 70/156/EC and 160-something pages for 2007/46/EC) and then I've also been reading the US regulations as well. Title 49 Code of Federal Regulations Part 571 ("Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards") is 875 pages. And then Title 40 Code of Federal Regulations Part 86 ("Control of Emissions From New And In-Use Highway Vehicles and Engines") - basically all of the fuel economy stuff - is another 1200-something pages). And this is so that I can figure out which parts or which certification calculations are similiar enough that I can collapse them into one calc. So haven't had much time to write it.

 

I originally wanted to keep it under 250 words, but after my intro was already 100-something words, I really had to work hard to make sure that I didn't go over 500.

 

And I can go A LOT more in-depth about how the vehicle actually performs, but I will also admit that I was really more focused on where I'm going than where the vehicle (body) was going.

 

But it was fun. The car's performance envelop FARRRR exceeds what MY body can handle (without getting motion sickness induced migraines). But it's also good to know how far you can push it so that in case you're in a sticky situation and you need to bail - you know how far and how hard you're "allowed" to push the FFH to accomplish that. So it was as much a "fun" thing as it was a "safety" thing.

I have to say this car has so many features I had to read the manual! Thats a first! Learned a lot though. Love that you can customize what you want to see and use. The voice recognition is much better than my MKX. The touch panels are a bit sensitive but you do get use to them pretty quickly. I have learned how to get to speed then let off a little to get into electric power (blue bar) and pretty much maintain speed. And I'm at 94% on the regen brakes. Thats the hardest thing to get use to, using the brakes to up the battery. Also learned if you use the recirulate air with the a/c it takes less energy. Love the wipers as they both go toward the center then out,clears the rain (major down pours in my area yesterday). Love the keyless lock/entry and the sony sound system. And I'm now a fan of the charcoal interior. Its sleek and sophisticated. I'm at 202 miles have a little more than 3/4 tank, up to 35.8 mpg. The roads around me are mostly daul lane 45 to 60. The back roads are curvey with hills and valleys. I don't really drive in major congestion but do have areas of stop and go traffic. Haven't been on the interstate yet but will today and will try out the cruise control. BTW I signed onto fuelly.com how do I post it when I have to filler up?

 

Yeah, even as a Ford employee, I was surprised that the manual to the Fusion Titanium Hybrid was 400-something pages long. I was like "are you freakin' for reals right now?" wow...but I guess that tells you how much more complicated cars have become over the years. I mean, it's got some pretty good information, but still, seems a tad excessive. The nice thing though is because you can download it as a PDF nowadays, so you can download it to your computer/laptop/netbook/ultrabook/tablet and then you can search in it which makes finding stuff a LOT faster. And it'll also be like the pilots (soon) where instead of having the paper manuals, you might just have a tablet with the manual in the car. Which would be great!

 

Turn on Eco Cruise mode. The street that I take into work, the flow of traffic is usually between 40-50 mph, so I just set the cruise at 44 (70 km/h) and leave it there. I've found that you can get better fuel economy with that even if you're both doing roughly the same speed. The cruise control on the Fusion is AMAZING!!! I LOVE it! It's so smooth. Even if you've set it for 69 (110 km/h) and then manually take it up to 75 (121 km/h) and then completely lift off again, you don't get thrown forward like I was in my mom's Camry. Awww...it's so beautiful. *tear* (No. Seriously. It's THAT good.)

 

I turned off the braking coach for a little while and I can tell that my regen braking score dropped, so I ended up turning it back on. It does take a bit of getting used to and it DOES take a fair bit of advanced planning for it so that you leave yourself enough space/distance in order to maximize the regen braking.

 

Re: A/C system

If you don't use A/C at all (but climate on, without the recirc mode), it'll be better. I've found there's very little difference if the A/C is on, climate on, and whether it's in the recirc or non-recirc mode in terms of fuel economy (because if you set your MyView on the left cluster display and then pick the one that shows you the climate and "other" power, the biggest difference is whether the A/C is on or not. The fan itself otherwise is very minimal (barely even a blip on the climate-side power even at full speed).

 

The car is pretty amazing and pretty sweet eh?

You are so right Alpha, the adaptive cruise is far better than any car I have ever driven ( and I've driven alot of different cars over the last 40+ years) even when manually slowing/speeding up. Oh my...it slows evenly when you approach a car going slower and then right back to speed smoothly once you passed them. Honestly I had to check a couple of time to make sure I was still on cruise its that smooth. But on the flip side I have no problem staying at 65 and mostly in the elec/gas (grey bar) above 40. I' m still learning all the neat things this car does. I will check out the climate part in the MyView and tweek my a/c etc and get the most effect setting with a good comfort level. We haven't hit the muggy heat yet although we have been in the upper 80s alot lately. I have noticed this car is not as hot when you get in after setting in a parking lot for 4 + hours as my MKX. So I wonder if it has anything to do with the shape and tint of the windows. There is not as much glare on the front or back window. All in all I'm having a blast...truely fun!

If you are only posting via an iPhone and not with a PC, finding the tags will be a royal pain. If you use Safari, then on the real Fuelly page, not the mobile one, there is a link on the lower right side to get the tag. You copy the HTML tag that is shows for your car, and paste it in your signature screen, then it will show up. May not work from an iPhone though since some stuff, like Java, and Flash are missing.

THANKS Acdii! I finally found it using my ipad ;-) Our F250 now shows up, not in any hurry to put the first tank in the Fusion and haven't put gas in the MKX since I got the Fusion (haven't driven it). Oil was down 4.35 a barrel so might see a .05 decrease by monday. And I hope I can hold out till middle of the week before I must "fillerup". I figure I can do at least another 80-90 miles.

Ok guys, my first fill up...today 379.3 miles 9.87 gallons $3.31 at Sheetz. Wanted to wait till tuesday or so but we were out and the" great guy I married " thought I shouldn't. I was only down a little less than 1/4 tank. But now I know it has better than 3 gallons left when it shows 1/4. This tank will be interesting. The learning curve is much smaller. I'm hoping for 42-44 mpg and should be closer to the 1000 mile mark. BTW fuelly says that tank cost me .08 a mile :-)

Alpha, Ii really don't drive in a city like D.C., New York, etc. Most of my stop and go traffic is in "town" 10-15 lights with a few stop signs in about a 4-5 mile area. Most of my driving is dual lane 45 to 60 mph. Lots of curves and hill. Very little straight flat roads around me. I'm 25 miles from a mall slightly close to a shopping center with a grocery store. It fairly rual here. Hope this helps.

I'm not TOO familiar with that area. The thing that I'm imagining is probably closer to like coming off the Appalachians inbound to Virginia through Pennsylvania/Maryland area. That's the only thing that I could think of, which I am not sure how accurate that would be.

 

But if you've got a fair bit of up and downhills, you can probably use momentum to your benefit.

 

Up here in Michigan (and Southwestern Ontario), a lot of the roads here are very flat. You can drive for hours on end with relatively little changes to elevation and they're reasonably straight. (Not quite as straight as the Ohio Turnpike in the Western part of Ohio around Toledo area).

 

People in Michigan also have a tendency to drive quite fast, and they are more towards the "impatient" type, but nowhere near as bad as New York City, or parts of L.A. or parts of Chicago.

Welp, I did it. I maxed out of the Fusion hybrid's fuel economy. Just got 999.9 mpg over 0.9 miles with 0.8 miles on EV mode and 0.1 miles on regen coming back from McDonald's in Downtown Windsor back to my place.

New picture uploaded. The results are in. I've now tested my FFH from 90-120 km/h in terms of fuel economy. There's an interesting observation that I noted while I was doing the testing. (Wow...can I sound ANYMORE like a geek??? lol....yayyy scientific method) In any case, the master equation is up for my FFH.

I hit 10k miles in 117 days (averaging 85.47 miles/day). Still total overall running average fuel economy is 37.5 mpg.
