Getting a new key cut, without having a key

So never did get a key code from my salesman as promised. Funny, when

I traded in the 2010, he insisted I send him the master code for the door keypad,

which I did. I have the keypad code for the 2013 that he did give me.

 

I haven't lost a key yet, but I am wondering if the dealer can cut me a new key

from just having my VIN?

 

If I were out somewhere, and I lose the key or somebody walks off with my

jacket, where I keep that monster key fob...what can I do? And suppose

I am far from home to easily get my spare.

 

If I call Ford Roadside, can they get me in the car so I can start/drive it? Or

would I have to be towed? This worries me more than being without a spare.

 

I am sure the dealer can always cut me a key from my existing key, but

how can I get that key code? I guess I could hide a spare key in the

car somewhere. I realize I'd want any lost key erase, but I'm talking about

being able to drive home.

If you have the PBS, the key wont do you much good as there is no place to start the car with it. The actual key is only used to unlock the drivers door in the event the remote unlock fails, or your battery dies. If you lose the Fob, then you would need the spare fob to have another one programmed at the dealer. So DONT lose the key fob!

Can I at least get a key from Ford to open the door and get in? I give them my keycode

and they'd bring me a key, or do I have to get towed? Or could they do this with just

the VIN?

 

I call Ford Roadside, can they get me into the car? Can they first cut me a key to get me into

the car at least. I have no key code and still don't know if there is a code for the IA keys -

looks like their is in the manual.

help me get it. He insisted I give him the key & keypad code for my trade-in which I did

immediately.

Any Ford dealer should be able to erase the key memory in the car and program in a new Intelligent Access key. I think the keycode is used to cut a new metal key which only unlocks the door and the glove compartment if it has a lock.

 

Ford Roadside is an amalgamation of various service companies. I doubt they would have any special information on the car. Their job is to tow you to the nearest Ford dealer.

 

If the car is locked and the battery is not dead the metal key will open the door but as soon as it opens the alarm count down begins and there is just enough time to enter the 5 digit code on the pillar key pad before the alarm triggers. Triggering the alarm sends a text message to your cell phone.

Bottom line - If the battery isn't dead use the 5 digit code on the pillar keypad to unlock the car.

If you have your keypad programmed you will be able to get in the car. If Ford roadside assistance comes they're going to expect you to be able to get in the car with your keypad code. The dealer can create a new key without having one present but it is more expensive.

Do you have push button start or not?

The answer depends on what you have.

 

With push button start the metal key is not used to start the car. It is not needed at all.

Any intelligent access key (for push button start) can be programmed into the car. There is nothing unique about the key except its factory generated ID code.

Programming the key's ID into the car's memory is what links it to the car.

 

If you had two of the same car, with push button start, it should be possibe to cross program the keys and cars so that any of the four keys would operate either car.

Yes that is what the metal key is for.

Ford could open the door with their master key(s).

 

Presumabley you have the second IA key available somewhere since I'm assuming you didn't lose both of them.

 

A new metal key could be cut using the one that is in the second key fob without needing the key code.
