Gas Prices?

We all drive hybrids so it could be worse, but what's happening to gas prices? GrySql, rico567 and acdii offered up some great off topic info in the "driving close to 62 mph" thread in the Fuel Mileage Forum, http://fordfusionhybridforum.com/topic/6540-driving-close-to-62-mph/. What's happening in your area? List your general location, what you typically pay for gas and any insights into why your gas costs what it does.

SE Michigan - $3.79 - $3.89 for regular ... Costco and Sam's club are $3.49.

Fort Lauderdale prices around $3.49, although I'm lucky to live near the cheapest gas here, $3.38 per gallon. I was in Tampa this weekend, it was $3.26 cash price, $3.31 credit. And no, we didn't take the FFH because we needed to rent a minivan since we were visiting family and needed space for 6 adults, 1 six year old and an infant in a baby seat. Averaged 25 mpg overall with the Chrysler Town & Country, which, by the way, was nowhere near as comfortable as the FFH!

Northwest Houston $3.26 just ticked up 0.03 to $3.29 today. Don't know why with Crude falling.

Good thing back home in Crystal Lake I usually go to Sam's club which should be a bit cheaper.

Yup I'm down to $3.21 here in Blacksburg. Little higher in Roanoke so I fuel up before my commute, not during.

I'd be very happy to pay that if I was in Maui right now, worth every penny - what a beautiful place.

Been there quite a few times and love it, even had one daughters wedding there.

Minneapolis area average is about $3.62 right now and falling. Our prices are typically in the lower half of the country due to our proximity to big refineries and the big refinery we have right here in the Twin Cities metro area

My last fill up was $3.03 per gallon at Murphy Oil station at the local Walmart. Using my Walmart discover card resulted in a 15 cent discount off the $3.18 posted price. I live in south central Arkansas in a retirement community about 15 miles North of Hot Springs and about 50 miles West of Little Rock.

Filled up tonight it was $3.93, but the last few months the gas has hovered around $4.20-$4.05 range. I expect it'll get jack up again as july 4th rolls around. As to the why.... we have toothless politicians in this state and they let the energy and gas companies do pretty much any damn thing they want to the public.

In San Francisco I saw gas prices as high at 4.37/gal for 87 octaine. Where I live it's 3.29.

I live in the far south suburbs of Chicago where 5 pipelines intersect. We are halfway between the BP Whiting IN and the Exon-Mobil Joliet IL refineries. The Petroleum de Venzuela refinery is no far away in Lemont IL. Today my closest gas station is at 4.25 gal and the Costco where I buy gas is 4.10 gal. The news last night said our prices are the highest in the country because our refineries are switching over to summer blend. Huh?

I think most American's are bonkers when it comes to their complaints about gas prices.

 

$3.79 a US Gallon is $1.0056 / Liter.

 

Here in Toronto, Canada I'm paying ~$1.25 / L or 4.73484 a US Gallon...

Yes we are bonkers about our gas prices. I reason the problem is because there is such variation from county to county and state to state. This going to date me, but I recall a road trip to Wichita, KS when we paid 13 cents a gal during a "gas war". The price in Chicago was a dollar more per gal. Gas prices increase quickly around here, but are slow to retreat when the latest crisis is over. Now we gonna deal with the "blendwall".

Agree the prices go up fast and come down much slower. The other disturbing thing is that they all (all brands) go up or down simultaneously. there is no real competition.

Here's one that will make you sit back and say WTF? regular $4.19 in Harvard, across the WI state line 15 miles away, $3.63. A 56 cent difference.

That can happen because Harvard WI is not required to sell the special Chicago / Milwaukee Reformulated Gas blend that is in short supply due to the refinery problems at 1 of the only 3 refineries that makes that blend. And, IL gas taxes are $0.06/gal higher.
